British Brew |
47 Fredrikinkatu Helsinki, Southern Finland 00100 Finland +358 (0)9 64 7371 http://www.oluthuone.com/ravin... |
A true British Pub, Angleterre specializes in hand pulled cask ale from various British breweries. Since 1976, this pub's warm atmosphere has lured locals and tourists alike. Angleterre also serves 40 odd bottled beers from the UK and Finland and a good range of Scottish malts. No British pub would be complete without a dart board, so this one has two. In Lenin we trust |
11 Eerikinkatu Helsinki, Southern Finland 00100 Finland +358 (0)9 61 1200 |
Cafe Mockba (Cafe Moscow) has all the charm of the former Soviet Republic, and Eastern European Bolsheviks. A spartan 1970's throw back to the USSR, Cafe Mockba offers quite an experience. Originally opened as an escape for the owners of the Corona bar next door, the idea was to have a small bar that was tucked away, serving a lousy selection of drinks and sandwiches that are sold the day after they're made. Dirty, faded curtains prevent visibility from the street and an old record player plays yesterday's Soviet hits. Despite its best efforts at anonymity, Café Mockba is now a favourite with the tourists. The bar was blessed by a conductor from the Red Army's Musicians of the Corps, who splashed vodka on the walls to keep the cats away. If washed out, used up, and broken down is your idea of chic, then Cafe Mockba should be at the top of your list anytime you are in Helsinki. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Erottaja is a quiet, relaxed bar where you can drink anything from coffee to beer, smoke in peace, chat and listen to background jazz. Most of the interior design was done by students and it is generally students who frequent Erottaja. The atmosphere is warm and friendly: a place for young intellectuals to hang out. The minimum age for admission is 20. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Helsinki hysteria |
50 Mannerheimintie Helsinki, Southern Finland 00260 Finland +358 (0)9 4 3101 |
Warning...all 24-year-olds are a no-no in Hesperia, but if you're over 24, the skies the limit here! Check out the long bar or the parallel dance floor or chat up your neighbour or just hang out - no charges for bird watching. Live jazz, blues, soul and pretty Helsinki head turners will definitely make your night an owl's delight! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Central, famous café |
1 Eteläesplanadi Helsinki 00130 Finland +358 9 681 2440 http://www.ravintolakappeli.com/ |
Kappeli has been a pioneer in Finnish dining since 1837, offering beautiful views of the seafront. The café part has gorgeous (though expensive) desserts, perfect for any time of day. The restaurant serves traditional Finnish dishes, often sporting sauces made from the beer brewed in the restaurant's own brewery. The same building also contains a bar and a cellar restaurant. In the summer, guests can make use of their large, busy terrace and watch passersby and the acts on the next-door Espa stage. Hours vary with each section. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Luxuries and mature people |
6 Mannerheimintie Helsinki 00100 Finland +358 9 612 1552 |
Mikado is one of the few places in Helsinki where you can get late night food as the kitchen is open until 3a. This is a place for adults, the minimum age being 26, and the prices are higher than elsewhere. Expect to find a mix of foreign businessmen and local clientele. Mikado aims for a certain expensive style, and they offer a lot of luxurious drinks, cigars, etc. Also, the gambling tables are some of the busiest in Helsinki. They feature live music and cool DJs spinning a wide variety of tunes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Trendy, inexpensive place |
9 Uudenmaankatu Helsinki 00120 Finland +358 9 621 4059 |
Bar No. 9, close to the junction of Uudenmaankatu and Yrjönkatu, is a modern, trendy place and the haunt of many important faces in the world of culture and entertainment. This pleasingly hip café-bar serves all sorts of coffees and alcoholic beverages, but their best deals are definitely the wok and noodle dishes with chicken, fish or vegetables. These are perhaps the best noodles in town. The soups, pasta and sandwiches are excellent too. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This beer bar has a very typical Belgian environment. The service is excellent and the prices won't give you a hangover. You'll find a mixed crowd of youngsters and people in their 40s as well. The Belgium beer selection here is varied and so are the snacks, which are relished by the patrons. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Comfy café-bar with a sauna |
27 Eerikinkatu Helsinki 00180 Finland +358 9 586 5550 http://www.saunabar.net/ |
What could really be more Finnish than to couple a sauna with a bar? The spacious sauna is clean and comfortable and has separate facilities for men and women. Each changing room has a large fish tank and a mini-bar, and on the women's side there is also a cosmetics corner, including a hairdryer. The sauna has to be booked beforehand, except on Sundays and Mondays. You can enjoy toasted sandwiches, other snacks and of course beers, apart from playin pool or surfing net. There is a DJ five nights a week, usually playing funk, soul, electro or other relatively gentle music. Occasionally there is also live music. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Easy jazz bar |
8 Museokatu Helsinki 00100 Finland +358 9 408 007 http://www.storyville.fi |
The best-known jazz club in Helsinki, Storyville resides in a basement where the redbrick walls scream New Orleans. This is a place for those who like to sit down, enjoy drinks and listen to a band playing light, easy jazz; you can always pop in and expect a live performance. Guest musicians are often from abroad. Storyville is especially popular on weekends, but you can wait in the upstairs pub if the club is full. Review © 2007, Wcities |

6 Fleminginkatu Helsinki, Southern Finland 00530 Finland +358 (09) 82 1816 http://www.oluthuone.com |
As a typical European "brune cafe", William K is a popular spot for locals. The special is William K. Bock, brewed by the Kappeli microbrewery. Eight beers are on tap with nearly 100 bottled beers and seasonal specialities for plenty of variety. William K has two rooms with a capacity for about 120 customers. A table for 12 to 25 people can be reserved for the afternoon or early evening. Review © 2007, Wcities |
