Other facilities include laundry maachines, a common room, common kitchen and games area. Sometimes parties are held in the outside garden/patio. The place attracts a mostly young, backpacker kind of crowd. Owned and operated by a big wave surfer named Max, this hotel provides basic accommodations at incredibly low rates. During low season, you can get a one-bedroom unit with a kitchen for $50 a night. As its name implies, this hotel sits right at the start of the famous Waikiki Beach district. Many visitors think the location is one of the best in Honolulu, especially now that Hawaii's new convention center has opened two blocks away. This is what the management calls a "no nonsense place," but that doesn't mean cheap or tacky. The rooms are of ample size and very comfortable. The staff is friendly without being pushy, and families are welcome. The understated and lovely lobby makes a great first impression. There is an activities desk where guests can book snorkeling, boating and other activities. One of Honolulu's finest seafood eateries, Nick's Fishmarket, is on the ground floor.
