The complex is located near the beach, on the Diamond Head side of Waikiki. All units come fully furnished with complete kitchens, private lanais, in-room safes and more. Some offer picturesque ocean and mountain views. Guest services include a swimming pool, laundry facilities, sauna, tennis court, barbecue facilities and an on-site sundry store. Maid service is offered daily. A relatively affordable option, it is particularly well suited to families; is within walking distance of Waikiki Beach and Honolulu Zoo, and is a mere stone's throw away from all the shopping, dining and nightlife of Waikiki.

Discovery Bay

Skyrise on the outskirt of Waikiki
1778 Ala Moana Blvd
Honolulu, HI 96815
United States
An impressive structure that sits smack-dab in between Waikiki and Ala Moana, this building is practically a district in itself. With a two-story shopping mall and several restaurants on-site, it offers plenty of guest services and activities. Amenities aren't too shabby either; units are furnished with washer/dryers and full kitchens. Ocean views are the standard.

This is a long-term accommodation, available for one month, minimum. It doesn't really qualify as a money-saving option, but families or groups with plenty to spend on accommodations will be happy in the elegant, spacious units.

Several rental and realty firms handle the different units. Some good ones to try are Hawaiian Properties (+1 808 955 3341), Waikiki Suites (http://www.waikikisuites.com) and Discovery Bay Realty (+1 808 946 3370).

Prices start at $3,000 per month.

This has been one of Hawaii's best hotel complexes for more than 45 years. Two towers, Tapa and Rainbow, are set in a huge garden paradise of tropical plants and wildlife and the Ali'i Tower is where guests are given the old-fashioned royal treatment. World-class shops, including the famous jewelry store Na Hoku and restaurants complement one of Hilton's finest efforts. The complex has a magnificent two-tiered pool and a luxuriant spa. The beach in front is more spacious than any hotel-front strip in Waikiki. At the on-the-beach activities hut, visitors can plan a day sail, parasail or snorkeling adventure at no extra charge.

While the main selling point of this hotel is its location (practically on the grounds of Honolulu International Airport), it has more things going for it than that. Accommodations are comfortable and well-equipped, and guest services are more than adequate. An on site restaurant serves three meals a day, and a shuttle transports guests from the hotel to Waikiki, Pearl Harbor ad other Honolulu hot spots. The restricted-entry "Executive Floor" is specially geared toward business travelers.
