Ala Moana Hawaiian Island Creations

Beach gear for everyone
1450 Ala Moana Boulevard
Honolulu, HI 96814
United States
+1 808 973 6780
http://www.hicsurfshop.com/
The name of this store almost suggests that it is a gift or a crafts store. That's far from the truth. This place is devoted to one of the true Hawaiian passions - surfing. The decor is great: Longboard displays adorn the walls and the sales floor, while the cash registers are in grass huts. Surf clothes (Aloha shirts, surf shorts, sunglasses, etc.) are for sale, in addition to all kinds of beach gear. The store is big, busy, and very well air-conditioned.

Diesel

Cutting-edge urban chic
1450 Ala Moana Boulevard
Honolulu, HI 96814
United States
+1 808 955 3555
http://diesel.com
This place is almost too urban for Hawai'i, even though a big city such as Honolulu really merits its own Diesel store. Spacious, stylish and sleek, this store appeals to young hipsters with quite a substantial clothing budget. Jeans, cargo pants, vests and full-length quilted coats (definitely not intended to be worn on-island) are displayed. Some of the clothes are neutral toned, some of them eye-catching shades of red and yellow. All of them make a statement - and all of them cost a bundle.

Hit the beach in style

Hit the road and head out to Haleiwa, quiet artist's town and the location for Baywatch Hawaii. The surf is high in this pretty little spot, and the locals are serious about their swimwear;which, in shops like this, can be state-of-the-art. All the suits here are hand cut and sewn. Not only that, but they possess what many women consider to be a truly magical quality: they're mix-n-match. There are dozens of styles, dozens of patterns;and hundreds of possibilities.

Patagonia

Rugged and outdoorsy

Honolulu, HI 96712
United States

Patagonia is a region in the southern part of Argentina and Chile that is so freezing, penguins wander the streets more regularly than people. The outdoorsmen who founded this company provide rugged, lightweight outdoor clothing that can stand up to these -and worse- temperatures. The store sells gear for biking, climbing, surfing and camping, among other activities. It's most famous for its durable, comfortable jackets, but it also sells pants, hats and other clothing items. There are 10 Patagonia stores in eight US states; the Hawai'i location is among the newest.

Surf-N-Sea

Surf shop with surfer staff
62-595, Kamehameha Highway
Honolulu, HI 96712
United States
+1 808 637 9887
http://www.surfnsea.com/
Housed in an unassuming 2 story building that dates back to the early 1920s, Surf-N-Sea has been catering to the needs of water babies for decades now. Not only do they retail and rent out scuba diving, snorkeling and surfing gear, they also offer beginner lessons and have tours of the marina. They also deal in beachwear and other accessories, including books and pro-surf videos for inspiration. For tourists who stand out like sore thumbs, Surf-N-Sea is the place to get kitted. You may not do too well in the water, but coming out of here, you'll at least look the part!
