Funky collectibles |
517 Kapahulu Avenue (Near Herbert Street, a few blocks north of Waikiki) Honolulu, HI 96815 United States +1 808 734 7628 |
One of Honolulu's best-known purveyors of Hawaiiana and collectibles, this funky store on the fringe of Waikiki claims to carry the world's largest selection of vintage Aloha shirts. Perfect-condition collector's items from the heyday of Aloha shirts (the 1930s to 1950s) easily fetch $500 and up, and stylish "vintage reproductions" cost $30 to $100, but you can also find wearable second-hand shirts for around $20. Other collectibles include old Zippo lighters, kitschy 1950s knick-knacks and World War II memorabilia. A stuffed gorilla in a grass skirt stands at attention outside. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fun and educational |
2335 Kalakaua Avenue, Suite 105 Honolulu, HI 96815-2941 United States +1 808 971 2925 |
Leopards, turtles and koala bears peek out from the shelves and displays of this charming store. From tiny penguins to giant gorillas, dozens of species are represented. But wait, this store isn't just fun. It has a cause! The cute, furry toys found here are intended to stir up childrens and adults interest in the plight of endangered animals: If we don't look out for them, we're going to lose them, and then the stuffed animals will be all that's left. If you're unaccustomed to playing with things in the air, ask for a free kite lesson. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Toys in front, games in back |
1450 Ala Moana Boulevard (Ala Moana Shopping Center, Garage Level) Honolulu, HI 96813 United States +1 808 949 4905 |
You absolutely must see this store; it is like no other. The first thing you'll notice is a display of lively, battery-operated stuffed animals. A large, fuzzy purple puppet dances near the entrance way. The interior looks like the Rainforest Cafe - the only difference is that here, the decorations are close enough to touch. In the back is a busy arcade (credit cards not accepted). The atmosphere is family oriented; parents play along with the children, most of whom are very young. Meanwhile, mechanical gorillas dance to island hits from a spot above the doorway. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Aloha prints for tiny tots |
1050 Ala Moana Boulevard Honolulu, HI 96814 United States +1 808 592 1900 http://www.tajclubhouse.com/ |
Children's clothing for Size 8 and smaller kidlets is on display in the front of this store; toys are in the back. All of the apparel features colorful Aloha prints. Some toys, such as alphabet blocks and stuffed animals, are meant for very young children, while others are intended for older ones. There is a decent selection of school and art supplies arranged along the side wall. Accessories such as backpacks and bags are also for sale. This store is located in the ritzy Ward Warehouse. It is a child-friendly place, as long as the children remain on a short lead. The store maintains a calm and quiet atmosphere—quite a feat when you remember the average age of customers. Then again, the polished parents who shop here tend to know how to subdue screaming children...if their children are ever misbehaved enough to scream in the first place. Review © 2007, Wcities |
