This popular gathering spot has moved to a new location, but none of its delicious Indo-Pakistani recipes were lost in the transition. The bright, cheerful interior is minimally decorated, but since the focus is on the food, no one seems to mind. Try to visit later in the evening when the crowds have thinned out - that is when the satellite television is tuned to the Indian film channel. If you are new to Indo-Pakistani cuisine, the best thing to do here is dive into one of the huge combination platters, which features generous portions of traditional favorites using halal meats. The 21 platter includes Biryani (mutton cooked with garam masala, a heady spice mixture), Chicken Korma (a piquant chicken, rice and yogurt dish), Fried Dal (spiced lentil patties), and Nan (Indian flat bread). Add sides of cooling Raita (a cucumber-yogurt sauce) and the garlicky spinach Sag, and you have a meal large enough for two. Soft drinks and teas are available to quench any fires, but you will want to try the sweet lassi, a blend of yogurt, sugar and ice that is a drink and dessert in one. Review © 2009, Wcities |
