North Shore by horseback |
On Poipu Road (1/2 mile past the Hyatt Regency) Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 742 6096 http://www.cjmstables.com |
If you want to follow in the footsteps (or hoofprints, as it were) of the paniolos, book an excursion with CJM. Experienced guides lead riders on a tour of cattle country, through a working ranch and down the dunes to the ocean. Three different rides are offered. The earliest is a breakfast ride down to a private beach. The second two hour ride is the most popular. This tour is offered twice daily. The third tour combines a 90-minute ride with an ocean swim and picnic lunch. Several rides are offered daily. Call or check the website for a schedule or more information. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Down and dirty in Kauai |
3412 Weliweli Road P.O. Box 800 Kauai, HI 96741 United States +1 808 742 2734 / +1 808 707 7088 http://www.kauaiatv.com/ |
Back-roading takes on a whole new meaning after you have experienced one of these wild rides. Yamaha or Honda 250 Semi-Automatic ATVs are the mode of transportation, and adventure is the point of the journey. Different tours are offered including a private guide tour, a waterfall tour and a scenic plantation tour. The little four-wheel vehicles are sturdy, fun and ready for any kind of road—or no road at all. The course goes down dirt roads through the cane fields, up ridges and along the coast. While the ride is not smooth and clothes can get muddy, thrill seekers should enjoy this tour quite a bit. Call for prices and tour times. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hawaiian fun |
Classes held on Poipu Beach Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 332 7411 http://www.kauaisurfschool.com |
Kids in Hawaii learn to surf about the same time they start school, and while tourists might be a few years behind the natives, there is no better time to learn than during a Hawaii vacation. The company holds classes year-round next to the Sheraton hotel on Poipu Beach. All levels are accommodated. Classes last approximately two hours. The water is warm, the groups are small (four person maximum), and the instructors are cheery and professional. It definitely beats school on the mainland! Call for more information. The 12-mile tour traverses the Waimea Canyon. "Jungle Paddle" takes people down the island streams to waterfalls and jungle pools. According to the season, either the Kipu Kai or the Na Pali Coast tour is offered. Both tours take place in open ocean waters and are recommended for physically fit individuals. New, scenic, popular |
2250 Ainako Street Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 742 8711 |
New to the Kauai golf scene is this lovely oceanfront course, designed by celebrated course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Temperamental winds and subtle challenges make this course more difficult than it might seem at first. Another hazard of play is the breathtaking view; it might distract an unwary player from the game. The course has already received attention from national publications and the PGA, and seems well on its way to becoming yet another of Hawaii's legendary resorts.Green fees: $145. Call four weeks in advance to book tee times. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A special kind of canopy |
Highway 520 Kauai, HI 96756 United States |
Unlike so many of Kauai's attractions, this one was created by a joint effort between Mother Nature and man. On Highway 520 (or Maluhia Road), you will find a mile-long stretch of eucalyptus trees bordering the road on both sides. Once upon a time, the trees formed an actual enclosure, but hurricanes have damaged the top of the tunnel. Nevertheless, it is a fragrant, beautiful passageway from Koloa to the east side of the island. The road can be driven or walked. Review © 2007, Wcities |
