Eco-safe ocean vessels |
4310 Waialo Road (Mailing address: PO Box 1017, Hanalei 96714) Kauai, HI 96705 United States +1 808 826 6804 / +1 808 659 6804 |
The "veggie vessels" that are owned by this tour company work in cooperation with local restaurants. The same oil that is used to cook a meal one night might be used to cruise to the reef the next morning. Daytime snorkeling excursions visit the dolphins, explore the caves, and tour the coral reefs. Evening sightseeing tours usually coincide with the sunset. The captains and tour guides are well trained in environmental awareness. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Visit the Forbidden Isle |
Port Allen (Mailing: P.O. Box 50940) Kauai, HI 96705 United States +1 808 335 0815 http://www.holoholocharters.com/ |
There are very few ways to visit the island of Ni'ihau, otherwise known as the Forbidden Island. This is one of a select few companies that can bring non-natives onto the shores of the Hawaiians only island. It also offers luxury snorkel tours, whale watches, sunset cruises and private charters. While these excursions cannot quite offer the mystique of the Ni'ihau adventure, tourists might still be won over by the protected cabins and the free-flowing beer and wine. Motor and sail cruises are offered. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Playground created for kids |
Lydgate Lane (Lydgate Park) Kauai, HI 96746 United States |
It looks like something out of Disneyland or Universal Studios, but in fact, this wondrous playground is just a community project, built by the parents and used by the children of Kaua'i. There are mazes, special slides, swings and much more. Parents can relax in the Japanese garden while the children play. More than 7,000 people helped to create this playground in the autumn of 1994. While parents built the structures and landscaped the surrounding area, kids kept busy designing tile artwork in all colors of the rainbow. The cheerful, fanciful tile creations decorate the playground to this day. Admission is free. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Coffee on the stalk |
One Numila Road (off Highway 50) Kauai, HI 96705 United States +1 808 335 0813 |
In California, tourists visit the wineries; in Hawaii they tour the coffee plantations. Kauai's largest coffee grower offers free tours around the estate. Visitors sip the finished product, wander among the coffee trees, and learn from the experts how coffee gets to the cup. This company is located on the Koloa Estate, a 3,400-acre estate that is known for its red dirt and pesticide-free practices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

There are many ways to see the sea off the shore of Kauai, and this company aims to cover all of the options. Raft tours, whale watches, catamaran cruises and first-class day tours are offered. Depending on the excursion, guests can snorkel just off the shore, get up close to larger marine life, enjoy buffet dining aboard the Lucky Lady, or visit an ancient Hawaiian village. Catamaran cruises are appropriate for everyone; raft expeditions are suited for hardier folks. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tour the Hawaiian past and present |
Kikiaola Harbor (Mailing: 9875 Waimea Road) Kauai, HI 96796 United States +1 808 338 0333 / +1 808 732 5456 http://www.liko-kauai.com/ |
The presence of native Hawaiian tour guides adds an element to these tours that you cannot find elsewhere. In addition to gaining knowledge about the ecology and current situation in Kaua'i, participants in these excursions also gain insight into Hawaii's past. The ship captains, all native Hawaiians, share Hawaiian legends, natural history and familial anecdotes with passengers. The tours venture along the Na Pali coastline, home to sea caves and spinner dolphins, whales and waterfalls. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Former owners of Z-Tour-Z |
Kikiaola Harbor Kauai, HI 96752 United States +1 808 742 6331 http://www.napaliriders.com |
Owned and operated by the former owners of Z-Tour-Z, this company offers the same high-powered excursions along Na Pali Coast. If conditions permit, five-hour excursions along the coast depart twice daily. The vessels are motor-powered inflatable rafts, known to provide a fast, exhilarating ride. Passengers can get prime views of whales and other marine life, and one segment of the tour actually goes inside several sea caves. Lunch and snorkeling are also included in every excursion package. Call for more information. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hunt on a private island |
Kaumualii Highway Kauai, HI 96747 United States +1 808 335 3500 |
This business offers some of the best high-ticket hunting west of Africa. The island is only inhabited by a few native Hawaiians, but until recently, the inhabitants were the only ones permitted to hunt the island's boar and sheep, but the family that owns the island recently opened certain areas up to non-hunters. The hunt is guaranteed to be challenging, but a good hunter should be able to bag a boar or a ram. Assistance obtaining a Hawaii State hunting license (though not the cost of the license itself), round-trip transportation to the private island of Ni'ihau, transportation on the island itself, a guide, a skinning crew, lunch, snacks and cold drinks, trophy care in the field, boxing of horns and skins for a taxidermist, and two animals are included in the price per day. Riffle rental is available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Grand Canyon of the Pacific |
Koke'e Road (Highway 552) Kauai, HI 96752 United States +1 808 274 3433 |
More publicity has been allotted to magnificent Waimea Canyon, located in Koke'e State Park, than perhaps any other landmark in the Hawaiian Islands. The words often attributed (mistakenly) to Mark Twain describe it best. This is the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," a breathtaking spectacle from any angle. There are a few ways to view Waimea Canyon; several tour companies offer helicopter or airplane tours. However, many people choose to make the trip to the canyon by car. Outdoor enthusiasts may choose to camp in the park (permit required). Review © 2007, Wcities |
