Breathtaking views, creative cuisine |
5380 Honoiki Road (in the Hanalei Bay Resort) Kauai, HI 96722 United States +1 808 826 6522 |
The gorgeous view of the gardens of Hanalei Bay Resort, stretching all the way out to the Pacific Ocean, is only one of many reasons to frequent this restaurant. The cuisine is an inventive, pleasing fusion of traditional Hawaiian and nouveau Pacific Rim. Signature dishes include the Bali Hai Crabcakes and the Steak "Oluwalu." Fish are caught daily and prepared in a choice of ways, including "Tropical Breeze" (sauteed in island fruit salsa) and "Bali Hai Sunset" (served atop fresh vegetables and the signature crab cakes). According to pizza lovers, this comfortable, family-style restaurant offers some of the best eats on Kaua'i. Established more than 20 years ago, the family-owned Kalaheo eatery has a warm, friendly atmosphere and consistently good food that keeps its loyal clientèle coming back for more. All pies are hearth-baked and you can choose between white or whole-wheat crust. Italian sausage is made on the premises. Delicious vegetarian options are available for the non-meat eaters in the group. If pizza is not what you have in mind, do not overlook the salad and sandwich selections. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A rustic dining experience |
2-2431 Kaumualii Highway Kauai, HI 96741 United States +1 808 332 9755 |
The sugar industry was once the dominating force of the Hawaiian Islands. People from a number of foreign countries came to work on the plantations, and were housed in wooden structures known as "camp houses." This is one of a few still standing. Its history is best explained through the photographs that adorn the walls. The menu consists of solid, down-home favorites served in sizable portions. Breakfasts are about as hearty as they come. Try the corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, home fries and eggs. Lunch and dinner entrees are based around meat dishes: barbecued chicken, ribs and burgers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

As if romance were not already in the Kauai air, the Hyatt has created an ocean-side 'Little Italy' for your dining pleasure. Tiki torch lighting and balmy ocean breezes add something magical to the atmosphere. Impeccably dressed and unfailingly friendly servers tend to your every need while you feast on some of the freshest, most delectably seasoned Italian food on the island. The chefs proudly use the hotel's own fresh-grown herbs to flavor the homemade pastas. Tiramisu melts in your mouth. The wine list is arguably the best on the island. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Experience a little piece of "Old Hawai'i." This Lihue restaurant is located inside the Kauai Marriott Resort and offers the best of Pacific Rim cuisine, along with outstanding ambiance and beautiful views. The restaurant is comprised of two floors and has an enchantingly tropical ambiance, complete with a small indoor waterfall. A canopy of lush foliage adds to the effect, and even the indoor dining area gives the impression of being open air. Take your time having a drink in the casual bar area or looking over the menu. The house specialty is fresh local fish, prepared any way you like. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Just about anyone can find something to enjoy, whether it's the comfortable plantation decor, the fresh seafood or the impressive wine list. Great performances and food |
Kilohana Kauai, HI 96766 United States +1 808 245 9593 http://gaylordskauai.com/luaus... |
Equal parts tradition and showmanship, the modern Hawaiian luau as presented at Kilohana is certain to entertain. It is more theatrical than the performances put on by authentic Hawaiian halaus (hula troops), but most people seem to feel that as far as a cultural experience goes, it more than suffices. Guests receive a shell lei upon arrival. As the night progresses, guests dine on Hawaiian specialties, listen to live music and watch fire dancers from Samoa and other Polynesian islands. Few places are as romantic as Kauai—and few hotels cater to romantics to the extent that this one does. Weddings can be seen almost any day, and the hotel is full of honeymooners, folks on anniversary or vacationing lovebirds. Of course, people who are not in the middle of a great romance can also appreciate this gracious hotel and its gorgeous beach front setting. A myriad of entertainment options are within easy driving distance, but fine dining can be enjoyed right on the property at Bali Hai. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This is a popular stop-off on the way to touristy Waimea Canyon and other top destinations. The friendly, small-town cafe opens at dawn and serves hearty, tasty breakfasts and lunches. Some menu items include bagels, breakfast burritos, omelets, sandwiches, salads, espresso drinks and ice cream shakes. This is a laid-back place to grab a bite. It is also a retailer, a hangout spot and, somewhat surprisingly, a meeting place for local techies. The Internet Users Group of Kalaheo meets here monthly. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The menu here features a wide variety of Italian classics but is distinctive in its creative touches. There are plenty of seafood options; a tribute to the Hawaiian coast locale. Its location inside the Princeville Resort virtually ensures an elegant dining experience. The interior is enhanced by hand-painted murals and artfully hanging ivy. Persian rugs accent the tile flooring, and lighting is low but warm. Glance out the window and you will see the several cascading waterfalls that gave the restaurant its name. Mexico may be a long way from Kaua'i, but the food served here is about as authentic as Mexican food gets. The restaurant has been an island fixture for more than 30 years. Resist the temptation to fill up on tortilla chips and house-made salsa; every dinner entree comes with vegetables, rice, beans and soup. Food is prepared in the most health-conscious manner possible (no lard), without sacrificing any of the flavor. The cheerful, cafe-style decor includes paper place mats, cozy booths and Mexican flourishes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

3173 Akahi Street Kauai, HI 96766 United States +1 808 245 2333 |
This casual spot is more of a pit stop than anything. It has been serving up breakfast and lunch basics for years, with no sign of changing menus or sprucing up its interior. The dining room is not fancy, but it does the job. Stop by for a filling breakfast of eggs and sausage, or sample the beef stew available most nights. Of course, a local restaurant cannot get by without offering the plate-lunch, so you will find plenty of teriyaki options during lunch hours. Most menu items are hearty but not for the health conscious. The restaurant caters to local clientele. It does breakfast best, so try to make it in before 11a. Review © 2007, Wcities |
