Favorite for fine dining |
5022 Lawai Road Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 742 1424 http://www.the-beach-house.com/ |
Not to be confused with Zelo's Beach House, this is a perennial favorite for fine dining. It has had a rather turbulent history that includes more than one full-scale natural disaster. Nevertheless, in spite of hurricanes, changes of ownership, and the unstable dining climate in Hawai'i, this restaurant perseveres. Its Pacific Rim-influenced menu features a nice blend of seafood, veggie and meat dishes. Diners and even the jaded local contingency just cannot get enough of the vividly colorful sunsets. Upscale poolside grill |
5520 Ka Haku Road (Princeville Hotel) Kauai, HI 96722 United States +1 808 826 9644 |
Sandwiches, salads and pupus (Hawaiian term for appetizers) with a gourmet twist are served here. A signature item is the Maryland Blue Crabmeat Quesadilla. Of course, most of the people lucky enough to lounge poolside at Princeville aren't thinking about food. All they need is a fruity cocktail, complete with a pineapple slice and an umbrella, to complete the tropical island fantasy. This establishment has fruity drinks a-plenty. Go for a Lava Flow or a Mai Tai, the standard Hawaiian foo-foo drinks. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gotta-love-it burger joint |
4-1421 Kuhio Highway Kauai, HI 96746 United States +1 808 823 0069 http://www.bubbaburger.com/ |
While waiting for your meal at this burger joint, you can amuse yourself by reading about the management's latest wrangle with snobby San Francisco lawyers, tossing your spare coins at the cook's feet (try to win a T-shirt!), or plugging your ears in an effort to get away from the pounding honky-tonk. Once the food comes, you'll be happily occupied for a while. Char-grilled burgers, baskets of "frings" (fries and rings—perfect for the indecisive) and even corn dogs are on the menu. The fare is simple, cheap and tasty. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Romantic courtyard dining |
1571 Poipu Road (Hyatt Regency) Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 742 1234 http://kauai.hyatt.com/ |
As if romance were not already in the Kauai air, the Hyatt has created an ocean-side 'Little Italy' for your dining pleasure. Tiki torch lighting and balmy ocean breezes add something magical to the atmosphere. Impeccably dressed and unfailingly friendly servers tend to your every need while you feast on some of the freshest, most delectably seasoned Italian food on the island. The chefs proudly use the hotel's own fresh-grown herbs to flavor the homemade pastas. Tiramisu melts in your mouth. The wine list is arguably the best on the island. Review © 2007, Wcities |

3610 Rice Street (at the Marriott) Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 246 9599 http://www.dukeskauai.com/ |
Experience a little piece of "Old Hawai'i." This Lihue restaurant is located inside the Kauai Marriott Resort and offers the best of Pacific Rim cuisine, along with outstanding ambiance and beautiful views. The restaurant is comprised of two floors and has an enchantingly tropical ambiance, complete with a small indoor waterfall. A canopy of lush foliage adds to the effect, and even the indoor dining area gives the impression of being open air. Take your time having a drink in the casual bar area or looking over the menu. The house specialty is fresh local fish, prepared any way you like. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deliciously affordable |
3-1878 Kaumualii Highway Kauai, HI 96766 United States |
If not everybody in your group is in the mood for fish, check out the menu here. You will find a lengthy selection of chicken, ribs and steaks. However, seafood is the specialty. This local grill and bar is family owned and operated, and is a dedicated supporter of the Hawaiian fishing industry. Ask about the seafood specials. A variety of fresh, local fish is available. If weather conditions are favorable, which they usually are, you can enjoy your meal on the open-air patio. The ambiance here is comfortably casual. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For the King in us |
2253 Poipu Road Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 742 2121 http://www.pgrestaurant.com/ |
Surrounded by the lovely Moir Gardens at the Kiahuna Plantation Resort, the restaurant is like an idyllic getaway with outdoor lanai seating and views of lush gardens. It serves authentic Hawaiian cuisine, and the vegetables are grown organically and sourced from local farmers. All the food is cooked on traditional Kiawe - a mesquite wood which adds flavour to the food. Try the local fare especially the catch of the day, like Seafood Lau Lau ($22.95), Steamer Basket with Hawaiian snapper ($21.95) or the Hawaiian Hot pot, sugar cane skewered shrimp and scallops ($22.95). Dessert start from $6-$7. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sandwiches on the fairway |
2250 Ainako Road Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 742 8711 |
The Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course sports its own grill and bar, situated over the 18th hole. This little restaurant is elegant in classic country-club fashion, and offers a tempting menu of breakfast and lunch items. The breakfast menu includes plenty of egg dishes as well as daily specials. Lunch options are primarily sandwiches and burgers. The friendly staff will make sure that you are well taken care of. The grill is open only for breakfast and lunch, but the bar stays open for business until around 6:45p. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Before or after the greens |
5-3900 Kuhio Highway (Princeville Golf Course) Kauai, HI 96722 United States +1 808 826 5050 |
Situated on the stunning Princeville Golf Course on the verdant North Shore of Kaua'i, this place offers golfers and guests of the Princeville Resort a casual place to dine in the morning or afternoon. Of course, Princeville equals pricey, so don't expect to find any cheap eats here, but this place probably does offer the least expensive meals on the resort. Sandwiches, salads, pupus and cocktails are served. Sushi is offered on Monday nights. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Favorite dining and drinking spot |
1571 Poipu Road (Hyatt Regency) Kauai, HI 96756 United States +1 808 742 1234 http://kauai.hyatt.com/ |
The Hyatt's most popular restaurant is also a great place to have a drink and soak up the atmosphere. The restaurant is surrounded by a free-form pool, which makes for a pleasant, serene atmosphere. It serves Hawaiian-inspired cuisine which focuses heavily on steak and seafood. The menu changes regularly, but you can always count on a few fresh and delicious seafood catches. The extensive wine list offers vintages from all over the world. The lounge opens a half-hour earlier than the restaurant and closes whenever patrons choose to go home. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located smack-dab in the center of Old Koloa Town, this cheery restaurant serves American comfort food. Steaks, burgers and ribs are served, as well as pasta and vegetarian specialties for non-meat eaters. Desserts are fresh baked, and the fish is freshly caught. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Families are more than welcome in the dining area; there is even a children's menu. The full bar offers sports and suds to thirsty locals and guests. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Way out West |
9400 Kaumuali'i Highway Kauai, HI 96796 United States +1 808 338 9733 http://www.waimea-plantation.com |
Perched on the Western shore of Kaua'i is 'the Westernmost brewpub' in the country. It serves a variety of handcrafted beers, among them Pakala Porter and the signature brew, Wai'ale'ale Ale. The menu features an impressive array of Hawaiian bar food, which is like American bar food with an Asian twist. Pupus (appetizers) include Ale-Steamed Shrimp, nachos and the ubiquitous Ahi Poke (raw Ahi in shoyu). Sandwiches, salads, pastas and filling meat entrees are also served. Wednesdays through Saturdays the pub is alive with live music. Review © 2007, Wcities |
