Deli & Bread Connection

Fresh, fabulous sandwiches
3-2600 Kaumualii Highway # 1005
(Kukui Grove Mall)
Kauai, HI 96766
United States
+1 808 245 7115
As you may have surmised from the cafe's name, the bread here is fresh-baked on the premises. An impressive spread of deli meats and cheeses gives you plenty of sandwich fixings to choose from. Aside from the sandwiches, fresh-made soups are also a specialty. Meal-sized salads (Cobb, baby greens, etc.) and a selection of baked goods are also available. Pastries are best in the morning; pies and cakes can be bought whole or by the slice. Dine in the sparkling clean, deli-style dining room. If you are in the market for top quality appliances, the cafe doubles as a kitchenware store.

Java Kai

Quality coffee, locally roasted
Kuhio Highway
near ABC store
Kauai, HI 96746
United States
This is a small but popular island company with two locations on Kauai. It specializes in high quality beans, which are roasted in a small facility on Lihue. The Kapa'a location offers a cozy, casual atmosphere with plenty of outdoor seating (essential in this tropical climate). Fresh-baked pastries are available daily. As with most island coffee houses, a variety of iced drinks is available for people who need a chilled treat to help them beat the heat.

Kalaheo Coffee Co

Snacks, shakes, munchies
2-2436 Kaumualii Highway # A2
Kauai, HI 96741
United States
http://www.kalaheo.com/
This is a popular stop-off on the way to touristy Waimea Canyon and other top destinations. The friendly, small-town cafe opens at dawn and serves hearty, tasty breakfasts and lunches. Some menu items include bagels, breakfast burritos, omelets, sandwiches, salads, espresso drinks and ice cream shakes. This is a laid-back place to grab a bite. It is also a retailer, a hangout spot and, somewhat surprisingly, a meeting place for local techies. The Internet Users Group of Kalaheo meets here monthly.

Kupono Cafe

Eat healthy, in style
1571 Poipu Road
Hyatt Regency Kauai
Kauai, HI 96756
United States

For anyone trying to maintain a relatively healthy eating regimen while on vacation, the place is an absolute dream. The cafe's theme is balance; that is how the name Kupono translates. As the name implies, the goal is to provide the perfect combination of nutrition and flavor - and in this, the restaurant succeeds admirably. Salads here are organic, breads are whole-grain, and fruit smoothies are made from only the freshest ingredients. The cafe is conveniently located inside the Hyatt's Anara Spa.

Olympic Cafe

A daily variety
4-1387 Kuhio Highway
Kauai, HI 96746
United States
+1 808 822 5825
"Real food" is served here in addition to mochas and other upscale cafe favorites. This casual spot is a pleasant cross between an espresso bar and restaurant. It caters to a mixed clientele, and the morning menu includes everything from espresso and fresh-baked pastry (a house specialty) to omelets. Local influences are visible in some of the options, while more healthy "California cuisine" is also available. Lunch entrees can be as simple as a burger and fries or as complicated as a Pan-Asian seafood creation.

Roadrunner Cafe

Tacos and tempe in Kilauea
2430 Oka Street
Kauai, HI 96754
United States
+1 808 828 8226
The name may seem to indicate a soup and sandwich joint, but the food here is authentically Mexican. Voted "Best Mexican Restaurant on Kauai" by several visitors' magazines, the cafe offers fresh and flavorful California-Mex style cuisine, along with salads, pastries, fresh-baked breads and more. If you are trying to avoid grease, you will be pleased at the absence of lard in this establishment's cooking. Daily fish options tend to be light, healthy and delicious.

Tip Top Cafe

Simple, low-cost dining
3173 Akahi Street
Kauai, HI 96766
United States
+1 808 245 2333
This casual spot is more of a pit stop than anything. It has been serving up breakfast and lunch basics for years, with no sign of changing menus or sprucing up its interior. The dining room is not fancy, but it does the job. Stop by for a filling breakfast of eggs and sausage, or sample the beef stew available most nights. Of course, a local restaurant cannot get by without offering the plate-lunch, so you will find plenty of teriyaki options during lunch hours. Most menu items are hearty but not for the health conscious. The restaurant caters to local clientele. It does breakfast best, so try to make it in before 11a.

The long-cherished dream of Elena Beth Ceridono or E.B. as she is also known, this eatery is a foodie's delight. Set in the scenic environs of Kauai's beautiful South Shore, you can enjoy the view while you eat. The ambience is casual and warm, and the staff friendly. Sandwiches, salads and eggs are served up for breakfast and lunch. Pick from their list of smoothies, refreshing coffees and delightful drinks. The food is of a high quality and priced well.
