Mexico may be a long way from Kaua'i, but the food served here is about as authentic as Mexican food gets. The restaurant has been an island fixture for more than 30 years. Resist the temptation to fill up on tortilla chips and house-made salsa; every dinner entree comes with vegetables, rice, beans and soup. Food is prepared in the most health-conscious manner possible (no lard), without sacrificing any of the flavor. The cheerful, cafe-style decor includes paper place mats, cozy booths and Mexican flourishes.

If you are trying to avoid grease, you will be pleased at the absence of lard in this establishment's cooking. Daily fish options tend to be light, healthy and delicious.
