Bali Hai

Breathtaking views, creative cuisine
5380 Honoiki Road
(in the Hanalei Bay Resort)
Kauai, HI 96722
United States
+1 808 826 6522
The gorgeous view of the gardens of Hanalei Bay Resort, stretching all the way out to the Pacific Ocean, is only one of many reasons to frequent this restaurant. The cuisine is an inventive, pleasing fusion of traditional Hawaiian and nouveau Pacific Rim. Signature dishes include the Bali Hai Crabcakes and the Steak "Oluwalu." Fish are caught daily and prepared in a choice of ways, including "Tropical Breeze" (sauteed in island fruit salsa) and "Bali Hai Sunset" (served atop fresh vegetables and the signature crab cakes).

Beach Restaurant

Upscale poolside grill
5520 Ka Haku Road
(Princeville Hotel)
Kauai, HI 96722
United States
+1 808 826 9644
Sandwiches, salads and pupus (Hawaiian term for appetizers) with a gourmet twist are served here. A signature item is the Maryland Blue Crabmeat Quesadilla. Of course, most of the people lucky enough to lounge poolside at Princeville aren't thinking about food. All they need is a fruity cocktail, complete with a pineapple slice and an umbrella, to complete the tropical island fantasy. This establishment has fruity drinks a-plenty. Go for a Lava Flow or a Mai Tai, the standard Hawaiian foo-foo drinks.

Java Kai

Quality coffee, locally roasted
Kuhio Highway
near ABC store
Kauai, HI 96746

This is a small but popular island company with two locations on Kauai. It specializes in high quality beans, which are roasted in a small facility on Lihue. The Kapa'a location offers a cozy, casual atmosphere with plenty of outdoor seating (essential in this tropical climate). Fresh-baked pastries are available daily. As with most island coffee houses, a variety of iced drinks is available for people who need a chilled treat to help them beat the heat.

Roadrunner Cafe

Tacos and tempe in Kilauea
2430 Oka Street
Kauai, HI 96754
United States
+1 808 828 8226
The name may seem to indicate a soup and sandwich joint, but the food here is authentically Mexican. Voted "Best Mexican Restaurant on Kauai" by several visitors' magazines, the cafe offers fresh and flavorful California-Mex style cuisine, along with salads, pastries, fresh-baked breads and more. If you are trying to avoid grease, you will be pleased at the absence of lard in this establishment's cooking. Daily fish options tend to be light, healthy and delicious.
