(at Emerald Bay)
Lake Tahoe, CA 96150

Walk this majestic trail to a beautiful waterfall. It is an easy quarter-mile hike through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Enjoy the fresh air, and see the flora and fauna indigenous to the area and breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe at every turn. If you're bringing the kids, keep an eye out for some steep spots that drop off abruptly. When you reach your final destination, you will be treated to the beautiful sight of water rushing over boulders and heading down the river to Lake Tahoe. If you are enjoying yourself and have a lot of energy, keep walking on the trail another three-quarters of a mile to Eagle Lake.

The terrain varies from steep sections to flat trails on this beautiful hike through dense sections of forest. The weather can change quickly; so be prepared with the proper clothing and equipment. The merry month of May is when Tahoe residents take a deep breath after the winter crowds have departed and before the summer hordes of tourists descend, making it a perfect month to enjoy the Sugar Pine Point Recreation Area in relative peace. The weather is warming, though still pleasantly cool, the ground is thawing, and in the meadows the first of the vivid wildflowers are springing up everywhere.
