Alpine Meadows Ski Resort

Skiing for the physically challenged
2600 Alpine Meadows Road
Lake Tahoe, CA 96174
United States
+1 530 583 4232
http://www.alpinemeadows.com/
Skiing Magazine called this resort "A mountain with a distinctly split personality: a mild side and a wild side." On the wild side, 75 percent of the runs are for expert skiers. Natural hazards and an elevation of 8,637 feet gives extreme skiers enough challenges to keep them busy all day. On the mild side, students with mental and physical disabilities can enjoy the challenge of skiing at the Tahoe Adaptive Ski School. Adaptive equipment rental is also available. The school operates November through April most seasons depending on snow.

Majestic beauty
Highway 89 at Meeks Bay
Lake Tahoe, CA 96145
United States
+1 530 525 7277
Majestic Emerald Bay is just a small part of this beautiful and pristine State Park covering 1,830 acres of the Sierra Nevada mountains. You will find six miles of both rocky and sandy beaches on the magnificent shoreline of Lake Tahoe. Also available to visitors are picnic areas, camping and miles of hiking trails. Enjoy nature and see the beautiful variety of trees and plants that are indigenous to the Lake Tahoe area. Along with the Ponderosa and Jeffrey pines, red and white fir, cedar, junipers and cottonwood, the park is brimming with gnarled and stunted sugar pines that grow in thin granite soil. Take a stroll along the Balancing Rock nature trail and see a 130-ton rock that balances precariously on a slender stone base. This has been a favorite attraction since the late 1800s. It's a short and easy half-mile, self-guided walk that shouldn't be missed. Plan on spending the entire day, because once you get here, you won't want to leave. An entrance fee of $4 is charged per car.

Showing remarkable sensitivity to kids and families, Northstar-At-Tahoe offers several parent-friendly options for wintertime fun. Special classes teach parents how to teach their kids to ski. The array of snow toys is incredible, and entices adults as well as children. Just saying the word "Snowscoot" is fun- think a Razor scooter minus wheels, but it's even more fun to rent one for just USD10 an hour. The Parents' Predicament lift pass allows either parent to use it to accompany a child, great for families with multiple kids.

Crystal clear waters

Lake Tahoe, CA 96145
United States
Lake Tahoe, which holds enough water to cover the state of California to a depth of 14 inches, was once named 'big water' by the Washoe Indian Tribe. This beautiful, pristine lake, nestled in the Sierra Nevada, is located on the Nevada and California border. The lake is 22 miles long, 12 miles wide and has 72 miles of shoreline. Sixty-three streams flow into the lake; but only one river, the Truckee, flows out of it. One-third of the lake lies in Nevada, and there are miles of biking, hiking and equestrian trails for your outdoor pleasure. Enjoy a multitude of beaches where you can bask in the sun or swim. Whether you come here for recreation or solitude, this breathtakingly beautiful lake will meet all your expectations.

In the heart of 2,000 acres of conifer forest, you will find Washoe Indian Territory. Once the summer home of the Washoe tribe, they came to hunt and fish at the beautiful lake. You can still see evidence of their occupation in the form of bedrock mortars or grinding rocks close to the Ehrman Mansion. In the 1880s, wealthy Californians started building elaborate summer estates in this area. Many of these homes remain and tours are available. This is a peaceful area to enjoy a picnic, hike or fish.

A quaint town at the mouth of Lake Tahoe
West Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe, CA 96145
United States
This little town on the west shore of the lake is home to many shops and popular restaurants, all within walking distance of one another. The only outlet to Lake Tahoe is the spillway underneath Fanny Bridge. The bridge was so named because passersby on the highway saw numerous people constantly leaning over the bridge looking at the hundreds of fish in the waters below. Across the highway you will find miles of hiking and biking trails, and places to rent rafts and float tubes so you can float downstream on the Truckee River.

Designed by Mrs. May Web Dunn in 1917, this course is 5,261 yards and par 33. The course overlooks Lake Tahoe, so you may be distracted by the breathtaking views. The caddy program continues to hire local youths, in keeping with Mrs. Dunn's wishes. The practice area includes a putting green, chipping bunker and netted driving range. Be sure to make your tee-off reservations two weeks in advance and, if you change your mind, there is a two-week cancellation policy.

This incredible place is for the child with an adventurous spirit who does not like to slow down. The kids will splat each other during paintball battles in the dense woods, get wet while they jet ski, water-ski or wakeboard. They will get high on indoor rock climbing, parasailing, bungee jumping or in a glider. Not enough yet? Try balloon rides, kayaking, go-kart racing and more. This camp will be your child's dream come true.

What a memorable experience you will have sailing on the crystal blue waters of Lake Tahoe on a 35-foot sailboat named The Avalanche. You will enjoy hands-on sailing or just sit back, relax and enjoy the magnificent scenery. The company offers two-hour sailing cruises in the afternoon. Or, if the ultimate romantic evening is what you are searching for, try a sunset cruise complete with refreshments and appetizers. An all-day charter that takes you to Emerald Bay. You can anchor-up and swim, tour the historic Vikingsholm Castle, or just stay on board and relax in the sun and have a delicious lunch. This would be the ultimate Tahoe memory and is a great idea for honeymooners. Also worth checking out is the Tahoe Cruz- a 25 passenger sailboat at the Tahoe City marina.
