Skiing for the physically challenged |
2600 Alpine Meadows Road Lake Tahoe, CA 96174 United States +1 530 583 4232 http://www.alpinemeadows.com/ |
Skiing Magazine called this resort "A mountain with a distinctly split personality: a mild side and a wild side." On the wild side, 75 percent of the runs are for expert skiers. Natural hazards and an elevation of 8,637 feet gives extreme skiers enough challenges to keep them busy all day. On the mild side, students with mental and physical disabilities can enjoy the challenge of skiing at the Tahoe Adaptive Ski School. Adaptive equipment rental is also available. The school operates November through April most seasons depending on snow. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The name of this casino pays homage to the crystal clear lake that has made this region so special. Abandoning the typical casino vibe, MontBleu has created a fresh, more serene feel to its gambling presence. The 40,000-square-foot gaming area invites players with many of the usual suspects: tables and slots. Flat screen TVs decorate The Zone sports book, for all the gamer's fancies. Nightlife options within the casino are copious, including the high-energy nightclub Blu, Opal Eurasion Cuisine & Ultra Lounge, and numerous live performances; this is a place you can take a group and satisfy everyone's mood. The accommodations are simply luxurious with amenities by Aveda and Bleu Cloud Beds. Onsen Spa, an Aveda Lifestyle Salon & Spa, is a perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes. The numerous dining options include Ciera Steak & Chophouse, del Soul, and a 24-hour diner. You may never have to leave the building, if it weren't for the infinite beauty outside. The jewel of Tahoe |
Highway 89 Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 United States +1 530 525 7277 |
Majestic Emerald Bay is just a small part of this beautiful and pristine State Park covering 1,830 acres of the Sierra Nevada mountains. You will find six miles of both rocky and sandy beaches on the magnificent shoreline of Lake Tahoe. Also available to visitors are picnic areas, camping and miles of hiking trails. Enjoy nature and see the beautiful variety of trees and plants that are indigenous to the Lake Tahoe area. Along with the Ponderosa and Jeffrey pines, red and white fir, cedar, junipers and cottonwood, the park is brimming with gnarled and stunted sugar pines that grow in thin granite soil. Take a stroll along the Balancing Rock nature trail and see a 130-ton rock that balances precariously on a slender stone base. This has been a favorite attraction since the late 1800s. It's a short and easy half-mile, self-guided walk that shouldn't be missed. Plan on spending the entire day, because once you get here, you won't want to leave. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The kids will splat each other during paintball battles in the dense woods, get wet while they jet ski, water-ski or wakeboard. They will get high on indoor rock climbing, parasailing, bungee jumping or in a glider. Not enough yet? Try balloon rides, kayaking, go-kart racing and more. This camp will be your child's dream come true. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Scandinavia on the lake |
Highway 89 Lake Tahoe, CA 96143 United States +1 530 525 7277 |
Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight began building her estate in 1928 with as many as 200 workers employed to carve intricate designs by hand; the hinges were hand-forged as well. Two of the most unusual aspects of the castle are the sod roof and the fact that much of the house was built without benefit of nails or other fasteners. The castle contains many fine examples of Scandinavian furnishings and antiques. This site is accessed from Emerald Bay State Park, also known as the D.L. Bliss State Park. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cabin accommodations are complete with kitchens, silverware and dishes. But be warned; you will find no telephones here. However, you can bring your pets. The Lodge rooms are cozy and comfortable with private baths. The marina provides the gateway for activities such as parasailing, jet skiing and sport fishing. The paddlewheeler M.S. Dixie II offers tours of the lake and Emerald Bay. Review © 2007, Wcities |
