Golf Digest rated this course in the "Top Ten in Nevada." Designed by Johnny Miller and Chi Chi Rodriguez, it has 7,000 yards and 27 holes of championship golf. If you need some expert instruction, the Ken Venturi Golf Academy is located here. The open course does mean that wind can become a major problem during play. Each hole has five to six tees to ensure that the course is challenging for players at every level of the game. Rounds, including carts, range from USD110 to USD235 depending on the season.

Black Mountain is located thirty minutes from the strip in Henderson, NV. Established in 1957, the course is one of the oldest in the valley- and still one of the most enjoyable. Recently, Black Mountain added nine new holes, and judging from our customers this addition to the course has created an even better value. The course is not tough, but very traditional in design and feel. Mature, tree lined fairways feature few undulations or trouble, but can play long on a windy day or from the back tees. The course offers generous landing areas; however players will have to be more accurate than in previous years in order to keep the ball in the "short stuff." Golfers will notice that the size of the greens tend to be smaller than most courses in Las Vegas, and this will force the player to be accurate on approach shots. That being said, the greens roll true and are relatively flat- creating a less demanding challenge for beginning or intermediate players.

Some players love this place and rate it one of the better courses in Las Vegas; others despise it. The 6,676-yard, par-72 golf course is located at Stallion Mountain Country Club. Water hazards on seven holes add to the challenge on the flat course. Even though the greens are small and fairways tight, many adjoining fairways make it easy to remedy any mistakes. The Las Vegas Golf Club is one of the only remaining municipal courses in town and is, for the price, a great venue for those who want to save their money for the tables. This course was the original in Las Vegas, and any golfer who grew up in Las Vegas or lived here during its “heyday” has stepped foot upon its turf. The course is designed by the legendary William P. Bell, who created such famous tracks as Torrey Pines (North and South), Bel-Air Country Club, Los Angeles Country Club, and the Riviera Country Club. Although the design at Las Vegas Golf Club is now considered antiquated in today's new era of desert-style courses, we feel “The Muni” still provides a very enjoyable round of golf while offering players the chance to experience an authentic piece of Las Vegas history. Las Vegas Golf Club features a wide-open design that measures just over 6600 yards from the back tees. The course is not going to overwhelm the average golfer, and is the perfect venue for those traveling to Las Vegas with junior players or those just taking up the game. The mature, tree-lined fairways pose the only problem on the course, but the player who can keep the ball flying straight will post a low score at the end of the round.

An oasis in the desert, this course hosted PGA and LPGA Tour Events including the Tournament of Champions and the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational. Palm, pine, and olive trees protect the well-bunkered greens and lush fairways. Unlike other Las Vegas layouts, there is rough, not desert, bordering the fairways. Located in the City of Las Vegas, this premium course is only two miles from the Strip. The fairways and greens are soft. As a result, there's not much roll in the fairways, and the greens hold well. National's greens are the second smallest in Nevada, elevated and surrounded by large bunkers. The course has five par 3 holes offering a stern test while three mid-length par fives offer good chances for par or birdie.

The Nu-Waiv Kaiv Course (Snow Mountain) is a desert, links-style design with no parallel holes. The scenic layout is located on the Paiute Reservation. Fairways are wide, and greens are small, flat and fast. Ponds come into play on seven holes. Considered a "kinder and gentler" Pete Dye layout, Snow Mountain provides a world-class golf experience typical for an architect who has designed eleven of the world's top 100 courses. The Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort's first course opened for play March 1, 1995. From the desert tortoise-etched tee markers in Tribal sacred colors, every hole features a backdrop of scenic vistas found only in the Nevada high desert. The signature hole is #16, a 198-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to a small, well-bunkered green. Impeccable rye-grass fairways and bent grass greens set against a sea of wild flowers in warm browns and dusty olives can lull you, but railroad tie bunkers, strategically placed pot bunkers and waste areas will challenge your shot-making skills.

Sun Mountain, opened in 1996, is framed like its brothers by yucca and Joshua trees and hundreds of wildflowers. It combines rye-grass fairways, bentgrass greens and railroad-tie trimmed bunkers and pot bunkers with vast waste areas separating the holes from the rugged desert terrain. This course includes four lakes coming into play on four holes. The greens are undulating and softer than the Nu-Waiv Kaiv greens. The signature hole is #4, a 206-yard, par 3, which is very similar to hole #16 on the older course. There is water along the right side, and a two-tiered, undulating green.

The most recent course addition to the Paiute family is the WOLF course. "Long" is the name of the theme here, measuring 7511 yards from the back tees- intimidating for even the most skilled player. Along with the length, Dye made sure to cause problems for big hitters by utilizing the natural desert wash areas that surround the entire facility, thus requiring players to be long and accurate from the tee boxes to clear the ravines and find the short grass. The fairways are tight and the greens are small; there is simply very little room for error if you plan on scoring well at this course. The course boasts two signature holes, No. 8 being one. This par 3 playing 206 yards has a giant wolf print of sand bunkers catches shots short and right, and shots long and right will roll down off the green 25-30 feet into a large waste bunker. The 15th par-3 hole plays to an island green similar to Dye's famed 17th at the TPC at Sawgrass. Wolf's 15th green is bigger, but from the back tees to a back pin the hole can play 200 yards. From the middle tees, it plays just a teeth-grinding 138. The key is to play the proper set of tees. If the wind is huffing, this course can leave a player howling like a you-know-what.

This desert-style course is a Jay Morrish design. Immaculate playing conditions and beautiful desert landscaping make Painted Desert Golf Club the first of its kind in Las Vegas. Set within a natural habitat, this club features numerous mounds, challenging greens and some of the most picturesque scenery in the area. This par 72 course stretches 6,840 yards from the championship tees. The somewhat narrow fairways are defined by the mounds on the sides. Many fairway grass bunkers and greenside sand bunkers have been incorporated into this course's design. In addition, a few trees can alter your shots if you hit an extremely errant shot, but none of them really come into play with the exception of hole #14, a short 313-yard, par 4. The greens are difficult to read because they are loaded with subtle breaks and undulations. Water hazards come into play on only a few holes.

The Concord Course opened in June 2002, and has quickly made it to the top of the golf "food chain." This side is a bit more player-friendly, but still features the elevation changes and desert surroundings that make the Lexington Course such a great layout. Management at The Revere allows the Bermuda rough on Concord to go dormant in the fall and winter months, which creates a fantastic contrast of emerald green fairways flanked by yellow grass on all sides. If you can't hit a fairway that is basically highlighted for you, then the Concord Course may be a bit out of your league. Although, the Concord does allow for more mis-hits from the tee box, providing a more confident feeling that your ball will land on grass somewhere. The eighteenth hole at Concord is arguably the best golf hole in Las Vegas. A long, downhill par-5 with a menacing ravine in front of the green will give you all you can handle at the finish. For long hitters who can take it 300+ yards from the tee-box, however, you will be looking at a 9-iron or pitching wedge approach that will provide you with a real eagle opportunity- nothing finishes up a round of golf better than a “3” on the scorecard (especially when it's a par-5).

The Lexington Course is the original, and arguably the better of the two (but not considerably so). The course features long, tight fairways that meander through the desert landscape and arroyos that are prevalent in the southeast section of Las Vegas. Architects Billy Casper and Greg Nash take full advantage of the elevation changes by giving you many different options from tee boxes that perch high above the fairway on many holes. This perspective is unique to most golfers, and there is not a course in Las Vegas that offers more dramatic changes in elevation (or more picturesque views). While not considered to be an overwhelmingly difficult golf course, The course will definitely test your game- particularly from the back tees (which measures over 7100 yards). The Lexington provides a dramatic setting with unobstructed views. The sloping terrain and deep canyon rims provide the golfer with a one of a kind golf experience. The course was built into the natural canyon landscape to provide players with an intimate, secluded golf experience. Multiple tee areas and strategic hazards make the course capable of testing even the best players abilities with providing others with a fun, manageable challenge.

Set among the rolling foothills of the Black Mountain Range in Las Vegas, the Rio Secco Golf Club provides a world-class golf experience unlike any other. The 18-hole, championship course is designed primarily for guests of Harrah´s and The Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino being located just 12 minutes south of the Las Vegas Strip. The course is located at the foot of the Black Mountains and was cut through the desert and washes, creating wide open fairways with several sand bunkers in the landing area. The difficult, undulating greens are large and fast, being protected by bunkers. The signature hole is #7 - a 417-yard, par 4, featuring a dogleg left fairway that leads to an impressive green cut into the face of the canyon wall. It's no wonder this course was voted the 2005 Best Course in the State from Golf Digest.

Greens fees range from USD135 to USD275, twilight rates available after 11am. A uniquely beautiful clubhouse hosts a pro shop and Stymie's Pub.

Located at Stallion Mountain Country Club, this course is the most recent addition and reportedly the most difficult of the three 18-hole golf areas here. Expect open fairways, fast greens and water hazards on seven holes. Word has it this course requires about eight strokes more than the Man O' War and Citation. Open to members and guests alike, it is a fun course to play and definitely a challenge.

Silverstone Golf Club

The Right Way to the Fairway!
8600 Cupp Drive
Las Vegas, NV 89131
United States
702 562 3770
http://www.teebone.com/coursep...
SilverStone Golf Club provides golfers with 27 fantastic holes at a facility that is unique to the Las Vegas valley. This links-style course is home to the annual Celebrity Classic, which features such “golfers” as Ray Romano, Charles Barkley, and former Celtics great Bill Russell. The course is designed in a manner reminiscent of the true, links-style layouts that are famous in Western Europe. While the course design is relatively flat, Cupp takes advantage of the landscape by creating holes that require very good shot-making, accuracy, and length. We believe that SilverStone offers players a reprieve from the “new” style of desert golf that has made popular elevation changes, ravines in the middle of fairways, and other features that many players consider “gimmicky.” This golf course is traditional in that it combines long, wide fairways with small, fast greens- creating a relatively difficult track that is popular with players.

Badlands Golf Club, the epitome of a target desert golf course, sits amid the natural desert habitat. Designed by Johnny Miller with consultation from Chi Chi Rodriguez, the course features spectacular terrain and breathtaking views. This resort has three nine hole courses - Desperado, Diablo and Outlaw - that can be played in three eighteen hole combinations. With four sets of tees to choose from, the Badlands offer an exciting challenge to the casual golfer as well as the experienced player. The original Desperado/Diablo Course is a desert-style layout that puts a premium on placement shots. Only ninety-five acres on this course are planted with grass. There are many grass and sand bunkers incorporated into the course's design, but very few trees. The main focus of the design centers on the natural scenery of the desert. The fairways afford generous landing areas, if you choose the right club. Generally the greens are medium-sized, but some of them are small. Each hole has its own unique characteristics. To quote the local pro, "Every hole is a signature hole".

You can play here if you know somebody who knows somebody. This private course allows guests invited by members to use the greens. Once you see the place, you will have to agree it is well worthwhile to cultivate an association with members whether you like them or not! The impeccably groomed greens are fast, fast, fast. Slopes, sand and water hazards present the best golfers a challenge, especially on hole #17. None of it was too much for Tiger Woods; he won his first PGA tournament here in 1995. This venue hosts the annual Invensys Golf Classic.
