Founded in 1969, the museum exhibits and studies the natural history of the Southwest. Featured is the Nevada State Fossil, the Ichthyosaur, a marine dinosaur about the size of a whale. The place also houses the most comprehensive bird collection in the state. Displays include baskets, weavings and pottery. In addition to the permanent archaeological, anthropological and historical displays, an area is set aside for traveling national and international exhibits. Plants indigenous to the area are presented in the outdoor arboretum. A gift shop is also located on the premises. Admission is free. Review © 2009, Wcities |
