The 24/7 Cafe, located in the Palms Resort & Casino, is available whenever you need a moment's break in Las Vegas. The menu is extensive and serves everything you'd expect from a Vegas restaurant, prime rib, slow cooked spare ribs, burgers, sandwiches, etc., plus there's a whole Chinese menu. Someone out there will undoubtedly stumble by after a long night and decide that Sweet and Sour Pork is exactly what their radioactively drunk body needs. I don't recommend it, but it's nice to know you can try. The 24/7 Cafe offers good food for any meal of the day, is popular among guests and visitors, and the plasma TV's are a nice added touch. This diner is easy to spot with the chrome exterior and sleek shape. Once inside, the jukebox and poodle skirts will bring you back to the 50s. Breakfasts are big and filling. Eggs, pancakes, Belgian waffles, omelets and juices are available all day. There are "blue plate specials" each day, ranging from meatloaf and mashed potatoes to patty melts. The milkshakes are served old-style, in metal cups with long spoons. There are salads and lighter fare for dieters, and the Cobb Salad is big and filling. No alcohol is served. Visitors will find a typical, friendly, sports-themed watering hole at Al's Garage, a place to grab a burger and fries with a few brews and maybe catch the game or drop a few bucks on video poker. But the local regulars know Al's secrets, such as the fact that the cozy patio is a great spot to meet and mingle with young professionals from the area who seek a casual retreat, especially on Thursday nights when a fun crowd packs the house. And though the standard bar grub menu is painted on the wall, you can order from the upscale tavern next door, Kennedy, since the restaurants share a kitchen. -Brock Radke Review © 2007, Wcities |

If you're ever in Las Vegas looking for the best spot to catch some waves, chances are you don't understand the mechanics of surfing. Though there may not be waves within 500 miles of the strip, you can still experience the tastes of the beach at the Balboa Beach Company. The restaurant's Southern California-centric menu focuses on interesting pizza topping combinations like barbecue chicken and red onions, or sun dried tomato and spinach, artichoke hearts with roasted garlic cream sauce, as well old favorite like pepperoni and cheese, or sausage and fresh mushrooms. Other specialties include baby back ribs, salads, and Pizza Bread Sandwiches - which are very similar to the traditional California style wrap, except with pizza bread instead of a tortilla. This iconic Los Angeles eatery set up shop a few years back in Treasure Island. While the smaller casino version couldn't possibly pack the lunch crowd punch as the original site, it has certainly established itself as a favorite snacking spot for late-night diners, hungry clubgoers, and Strip execs seeking a sublime sandwich. High quality pastrami, turkey, or corned beef are all great choices, but the soft sourdough may be the secret to success. Save room for the chocolate chip cake. -Brock Radke Review © 2007, Wcities |

Want a taste of New York City while dining in Las Vegas? Look no farther than the New York-New York Hotel & Casino and Greenberg's Deli. Found in the Village Eateries section, you can get a good pastrami and corned beef without ever leaving Nevada. The sandwiches have enough heft to comprise a dinner, but the real treat is eating along a New York street that has been recently cleaned! Review © 2007, Wcities |

A popular place with locals for breakfast and lunch, you can get "Americanized" Chinese food, such as Beef Chow Mein and Egg Foo Yung. But a surprising favorite is Bill Fong's Chinese Cheeseburger. The secret ingredient is the stir-fried bean sprouts, which gives a special crunch. This place has been described as a "Happy Days time warp," with a long lunch counter and swivel stools. Nothing fancy, but it gives you an idea of dining in the 40s and 50s. Review © 2007, Wcities |
