A blast from the past

Las Vegas, NV 89128
United States
+1 702 804 8044
http://www.5anddiner.com
This diner is easy to spot with the chrome exterior and sleek shape. Once inside, the jukebox and poodle skirts will bring you back to the 50s. Breakfasts are big and filling. Eggs, pancakes, Belgian waffles, omelets and juices are available all day. There are "blue plate specials" each day, ranging from meatloaf and mashed potatoes to patty melts. The milkshakes are served old-style, in metal cups with long spoons. There are salads and lighter fare for dieters, and the Cobb Salad is big and filling. No alcohol is served.

http://www.benihana.com/
This spot has stood the test of time. One of the original "themed" restaurants, it has been here for more than 30 years (since the hotel was known as the International). One of its claims to fame, of course, is the exhibition-style Teppanyaki preparation and cooking your selection of beef, chicken or fish at your tableside. Reservations are recommended, but if you have to wait, the Kabuki Lounge offers great atmosphere and exotic drinks. This is not just another Japanese restaurant, but a true fantasyland adventure, complete with realistic thunderstorms, waterfalls and magnificent aquariums.

Dogs rule the roost at this favorite hangout of Las Vegas locals. Beer flows from fire hydrant taps and dog paintings adorn the walls. Even much of the food is dog-themed. Try the Big Dog Burger, or if you're really hungry, the Two Dog Burger. There is also an Herbed Rotisserie Chicken that will have you licking your chops. Steaks, ribs and quesadillas add to the fun food menu. Wash it down with an award-winning, locally-brewed Holy Cow Beer.

This is a surprisingly relaxed place inside the Treasure Island Hotel Casino, overlooking the more frantic Buccaneer Bay Pirate Show from the expansive window seating. Older children will enjoy the atmosphere, although no one under age five is allowed. Many people come here to enjoy the show while dining, but the food itself is well worth the visit. This is not your typical "theme" dining, but a bona fide gourmet room, with specialties such as Rack of Lamb, Filet Mignon and spectacular Lobster Bisque.

Steve Martorano is a big guy with muscles and tattoos. And he can cook up some mean Italian food. His vision: "Part restaurant. Part nightclub. All Italian." The music is loud, ranging from Frank Sinatra in the early evening to Hip Hop and R&B late at night. It's not unusual for people to dance in the aisles, or even on top of their tables. There is no menu. Instead, a waiter rattles off that day's list of about dozen entrées, but the servings are large and meant for sharing. This is a hugely popular attraction at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino, with the prices to go with it, so reservations are highly recommended.

The oldest and perhaps the most expensive Indian restaurant in Las Vegas, Gandhi was the winner of the Best of Las Vegas Reader's Poll in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. There are many ways to enjoy dining here. The easiest, for the inexperienced, is the lunch buffet with 18-courses including soup and salad. There are several fixed-price menus, which allow a good sampling, including dessert and beverage. A children's menu is available with less spicy selections.

Three varieties of caviar are served, in traditional style with toast points or blinis, and available in one-ounce increments. For a modest price, enjoy a true Russian entree, Kulebyaka, salmon filet with mushrooms, chopped egg, dill and Salmon Mousseline wrapped in a puff pastry. For dessert, the Strawberries Romanoff would win over even Joseph Stalin's heart. A wide selection of vodkas and other bar drinks is available.

This fun place has won the Critic's Award for Best Place to Dance and Best New Hotel Restaurant given by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The Mandalay Bay Resort houses a refreshing two-story jungle complete with waterfalls and the world's largest rum bar. The Lava Flow is a flaming volcano-bowl filled with dark rum, crushed pineapple, mango, brandy and orange juice. Try the Fire Pit, an eight-course meal including skewered kabobs of meat.

SW Steakhouse

Top Shelf Steakhouse

Las Vegas, NV 89109

The SW Steakhouse found in Wynn Las Vegas is a cut above the other Vegas steakhouses. Offering a variety of entrees like Seared Hawaiian Tuna, Olive Oil Poached Scottish Salmon, and Bouillabaisse, the SW Steakhouse is not the typical meat and potatoes joint. Though, of course, they do serve meat, and it is to die for. Every steak is cooked to perfection and you can find some specialty steaks here, like a Double-Cut Rib Eye or a 40 oz. Porterhouse for Two. After dinner, try the Summer Sampler for dessert, but be sure to bring friends to help because this is a four course dessert with shakes, ice cream sandwiches, sorbet, and ice cream bars.

This delightful eatery has enjoyed popularity for many years. The appetizer menu offers more than 15 selections and the Chicken Pakoras is highly recommended. No eating experience here would be complete without sampling the Tandoori breads. The Keema Naan, unleavened bread with spiced lamb is lovely, and so is the Alu Paratha, a whole wheat bread with potatoes and spices. For an entree, the Lamb Rogan Josh features lamb, onion, cilantro and garlic, cooked in sour spices.

For those that are bored with the ordinary buffet fare, this is truly a fine dining experience. Classic French foods are featured including dishes from five different provinces, such as Burgundy and Alsace. The chefs prepare crepes to order and if your mouth waters for seafood, you have come to the right place. Small but important touches, such as fresh berries for breakfast and real whipped cream for hot chocolate raise the bar for buffet food. This eatery is located at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.
