Along with gambling, Las Vegas is known for its over-the-top entertainment. Nowhere is the city's surreal vibe more evident than at the entertainment spectaculars put on by the major theme casinos. A fairy tale of your choosing awaits as you meander down the strip. What can't be emphasized enough is the incredible variety of experiences available to the traveler. The best place to start is the 'Fountains of Bellagio' delight guests with their delicate blend of water, light and classical music. Show times are every half hour during the day and every 15 minutes beginning at 8:00 p.m. With its Italian Renaissance aura and graceful choreography, the fountains are a comfortable warm-up to the more intense sites ahead.

Next, grab your sea legs and head to the Venetian, where you can ride a gondola down a recreation of the famous Grand Canal. White tigers and more explosive fun can be viewed outside the Mirage. Lighting up the evening sky in a shower of molten illumination, 'the Volcano,' a Las Vegas fixture since 1989, erupts every hour from 7:00 pm. til midnight. If erupting volcanoes aren't your thing, head indoors and back in time at the Tournament of Kings in the Excalibur Hotel Casino. The jousting knights, fire wielding wizards, and marauding dragons perform twice nightly (except Tuesdays) at 6:00 and 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $55.00 and reservations are highly recommended (702-597-7600).

Lastly, you can pretend you are a world-famous archaeologist discovering the secrets of King Tut's Tomb at the Luxor. The Pharoh's tomb has been recreated in exquisite detail. Everything from the tomb's dimensions, to the sepulcher arrangements recorded by the original 1922 expedition team, to the 3,000 year old production methods have been combined to give the visitor an image of the boy Pharoh's final resting place at the moment it was sealed. The tour consists of a 15-minute self-guided audio recording.

If you can't make it to Egypt, but you are interested in Middle Eastern history, this is the place to go. Located deep inside the Luxor pyramid, the museum is a real treat. Exact reproductions of the young king's tomb and riches will be discovered on this self-directed audio tour. All room measurements and placement of the artifacts are based on the notes of Howard Carter who discovered the original tomb in 1922. It is so realistic, you might just worry about being cursed. Audio tour translations available in English, Japanese, French and Spanish.

If you want to walk like an Egyptian, you've come to the right place. Opened in 1993, this hotel is a huge pyramid, fronted by a giant sphinx. The pyramid reaches 350 feet into the air, the equivalent of 36 stories. It is the world's largest atrium at 29-million cubic feet, and the light at the top is the brightest beam in the world.
