Headrow Bar and Eatery |
153 The Headrow Leeds LS1 5RB United Kingdom +44 8000 277 171 http://www.babycream.co.uk |
The first thing you notice on entering is the spectacular spiral staircase. Once inside, the decor is a mix of all things modern - from the contemporary steel mirrors and colourful collages on the walls, to the funky raised booths and comfy sofas. There is a large selection of drinks for every taste, from unusual spirits to traditional bottled beers. There is also a comprehensive wine list and a large selection of teas and coffees. The menu items are less than spectacular featuring only common selections. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Perfect for those in a hurry |
31 Boar Lane Leeds LS1 5DA United Kingdom +44 113 244 5220 http://www.barcenssa.co.uk |
Snappy service, tasty food and a relaxed atmosphere make Bar Censsa a great place for a pit stop. The bright interior is a real mishmash of fabrics and furniture, giving the bar an appealing, offbeat look. The food is good too, with an impressive range of vegetarian dishes such as hot pepper, onion and mozzarella ciabatta sandwiches. It's a bit quiet during the day but at the weekend, the bar is invaded by the bar-crawl crowd that make their way down the Boar Lane drag. Look out for the novel e-mail order form (on the bar's website) where you can place your order so it's ready when you arrive - perfect if you are in a hurry to get to the train station which is just a couple of minutes away. Drink and dance the night away |
109-121 Merrion Place Leeds LS1 6PJ United Kingdom +44 113 244 1991 |
Brannigans' motto is eating, drinking and cavorting. If this doesn't give you an idea of what this place is all about, imagine a big pub with a dance floor full of drunk and excited people (they get a lot of hen nights here). Brannigans is also popular with late-night middle-aged revelers and daytime shoppers. The lunch menu features a great two meals for £6 offer (choices include burgers and simple pastas). In the evening, the larger menu comes into play: chicken and cashew pasta and lamb with cranberry butter are but two examples. Brannigans has a smart dress code no trainers or blue denim. A poor cousin of KFC |
45 New Briggate Leeds LS1 6NU United Kingdom +44 113 246 9786 |
It may look like a poor imitation of KFC, with remarkably similar logos and menus to Colonel Sanders' international chain, but Dixy Chicken has much to recommend it. The interior is clean and basic with a few tables and stools if you choose to eat in, prices are cheap and the food is pretty finger lickin' good. The highlight of the menu has to be the tasty 'Secret Recipe Dinner' with two pieces of chicken, fries and coleslaw. As close as you'll get to a KFC in Leeds city centre. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pool, food, drinking and dancing |
64 Call Lane Leeds LS1 6DT United Kingdom +44 113 245 7011 http://www.elbow-room.co.uk |
Is it a bar, is it a club or is it a pool hall? The answer is: it's whatever you want it to be. The concept behind The Elbow Room originated - like so many things in modern England - in America and it seems to work very well. Whether you want to hang out, play pool, have a drink or dance, The Elbow Room can definitely guarantee a great night out and is bound to keep everyone happy. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Inexpensive Balti specialist |
162a Woodhouse Lane Leeds LS2 9HB United Kingdom +44 113 245 3058 |
This inexpensive, family-run establishment in the heart of studentland opened in 1986. It's medium-sized with a friendly, vibrant atmosphere that attracts a wide variety of customers. All the old favorites are here such as bhuna, korma, madras and vindaloo. Other flavorsome treats include the excellent chef's specials and the range of baltis and tandooris. Try a balti gosht (lamb dish), or the chicken tikka masala, recently voted most popular meal in England. There is no drinks licence and alcohol is not allowed on the premises. There is a takeaway service available and there are free deliveries on orders over £5 within a two mile radius. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cavernous and exclusive hideaway |
174 Lower Briggate Leeds LS1 6DT United Kingdom +44 113 245 7768 |
A cave-like bar with an exclusive edge, Oslo is a real find. It started as a members-only hideaway and - even though it is now open to the general public - the place retains an air of secret exclusivity. The cocktails are delicious creations. A small but wondrous range of tapas cost around £4 each, with king prawns and honey just pipping the others to the post in the taste stakes. At the weekend, DJs play just the right lively sounds to keep the cool crew tapping their feet. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classy and popular |
48 Call Lane Leeds LS1 6DT United Kingdom +44 113 243 2778 |
Wooden floors, great lighting and a big bar make this the ideal location for all your socializing needs. Each day, it undergoes a startling transformation from a pleasant, sedate cafe-bar during the day, to a very popular late-night drinking (and sometimes dancing!) establishment in the evening. The excellent DJs play funky music six nights a week. If you prefer to drink rather than dance, you'll be transfixed by the selection of vodka. There is just about every quality brand of vodka available as well as a massive range of special recipe frozen flavored vodkas, with changing seasonal specials. Good value, tasty food is served daily until early evening. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A good selection of Central American beers is also stocked: Corona, Sol, Cristal and Bohemia. The food is perfect for sharing. The nachos todos grande is enough for at least five.
