Relaxed gay bar |
3 Blayds Yard Leeds LS1 4AD United Kingdom +44 113 244 5590 |
This small, well-decorated and low-key bar is a far cry from some of the trashier gay venues in Leeds. It gets busy in the evening and at weekends (especially on Sunday afternoons) but it's a nice place to go and read the newspaper in the daytime. Wednesday and Friday evenings are 'women only' nights. Drinks are pretty cheap and there are regular special offers that are well worth looking out for. Blayds is almost exclusively gay and while non-gays would be made welcome in the bar, they are infrequent visitors. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pleasant and modern gay pub |
1-5 Bridge End Leeds LS1 7HG United Kingdom +44 113 244 4734 |
Modern and airy, this pub boasts a great riverside location. Although it's not one of the city's trendiest gay spots, it's become a firm favourite with many thanks to its non-extrovert, chilled out atmosphere - aside from the slightly more raucous Friday and Saturday nights. A selection of inexpensive roast dinners (beef, lamb and chicken) are served from noon to 7p every day. Happy hour is from 3p to 7p. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cheap, cheerful and fun! |
57-59 Call Lane Leeds LS1 7BT United Kingdom +44 113 243 8055 |
One of the longest-running gay pubs in Leeds, the New Penny is a friendly place where everybody is welcome. In the daytime, it seems like a pretty normal Yorkshire pub, but at night all that changes. Tuesday night is Bitchy Bingo Night while on Thursday, there's a DJ and a male stripper. Drag entertainment rounds off the week on Sundays. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Flamboyant weekly house night |
Somers Street 19-21 Somers Street Leeds LS1 2RG United Kingdom +44 113 246 8287 |
This has got to be the campest, most flamboyant night out in Leeds. It's about a fifty-fifty mix of gay and straight clubbers and anyone with a tolerant attitude will enjoy themselves and be made very welcome. There is a mix of speed garage and house downstairs and funky stuff upstairs. It's not really the music that most people come for though, it's to dance and have a good time. Speed Queen packs out the Warehouse every third Saturday of every month and it gets pretty hot. Luckily, you can get an ice pop to suck on from the sweet shop upstairs. Most of the clientele dress to impress with outfits that range from the original to the frankly outrageous. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exclusive and stylish gay/mixed venue |
Duncan Street Off Call Lane Leeds LS1 6NJ United Kingdom +44 113 242 5079 |
This stylish yet relaxed backstreet bar and restaurant has a real mixed bag of regulars from lunching office workers and relaxed evening diners to a happy, stylish and camp weekend crowd. Beautifully decorated, with a cloud-painted ceiling and lots of blue and purple decadence, it manages to maintain a chic atmosphere without being stuffy. The food is delicious and modern, yet not overly expensive. There is a Mediterranean and East Asian flavor to the dishes - try feta cheese and spinach parcels or Thai green mussels.
