Established since 1850, the company was formed by Irish-born Robert Cain who arrived in Liverpool as a young man and quickly built up a thriving brewing business. Still producing award-winning ales today, the terracotta tiled building is a historic landmark and of great architectural interest. Tours commence promptly at 6:30p and visitors should be prepared to climb stairs. Pre-booking is essential and the tour is open to over 18s only. Following the tour, visitors are encouraged to sample a pint or two in the adjacent Brewery Tap pub.

Facilities include two swimming pools, a weights room, two floodlit astro-turf pitches and a re-furbished health suite comprising of a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi bath. Judo and gymnastic sessions are available for adults and children; other classes include swimming instruction, keep-fit, toddler's activities, aqua-natal and the latest spinning sessions.
