School Lane School Lane Liverpool, Merseyside L1 3BX United Kingdom +44 (0)151 709 6123 |
Established in 1997, Frakture is one of a handful of festivals in the UK to feature improvised music. It may not suit all tastes, but curiosity should be enough to tempt the inquisitive to attend at least one event. The festival takes place in the Bluecoat Arts Centre around October and November with a programme of six to eight performances spread over ten days. Frakture attracts some of the leading figures in the field, and artists like Louis Moholo, Evan Parker and Lol Coxhill are well worth seeing. See website for complete yearly particulars. The first Grand National was held in 1839 and today has grown to drawing more than 100,000 spectators and is considered the premier race in horse racing. Red Rum, the most famous winner, was the only horse to win the National three times: 1973, 1974 and 1977, and it is said that this record will likely never be beaten. A statue memorializing Red Rum is erected at the winning post at Aintree Racecourse for visitors to admire. While televised, watching the event from the stands is an experience not to be missed. Admission ranges from GBP10-GBP65. Review © 2007, Wcities |
