Despite riding's traditional image as a genteel countryside pursuit for the landed gentry and girls with names ending in A, the emphasis here is on instruction of basic riding skills to underprivileged local children. The stables are open to the public but demand is high and you can expect a two-month wait at least. Indoor and outdoor arenas and 22 ponies and horses are available, and all instructors are approved by the British Horse Association. Rates are £8 per hour for children and £13 per hour for adults.
