Alexandra Palace Wood Green, Haringey London N22 7AY United Kingdom http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/ |
Right before skiing season, a host of ski shows - featuring new products, equipment, travel packages and the like - will try to part you from your money. This snowboarding festival has all these features, but works harder on entertaining the snowboarding fan and showing would-be boarders what the sport is all about. Past attractions have included the 70m real snow Big Air Jump and Olympic champion Gian Simmen was a former guest. You'll also have the chance to check out what's new in the snowboarding world. Admission costs around £6-£10. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Ice-skating, arcades and bowling |
17 Queensway London, London W2 4QP United Kingdom +44 20 7229 0172 |
Whizz around with a group of friends or take private classes at this large indoor rink. Evening discos take place at the weekend, when a 70s glitterball and a music-hall organ take centre stage - the lights are low and the music pumping. Warm up and refuel at the rink-side cafe, which supplies frothy hot chocolate, cold drinks, chocolate bars and chips to wet-bottomed skaters. Spectators have their own special viewing gallery from where they can giggle at everyone's attempts. The smallest skates are junior size 8. Ten-pin bowling has now been added, and is open from 10am. Ice-rink with a history |
386 Streatham High Road London, London SW16 6HT United Kingdom +44 20 8769 7771 / +44 20 8677 6400 (Skate Shop) http://www.streathamicearena.c... |
Now better known for its ice-hockey team The Chiefs, the Streatham Ice Arena used to be known for hosting sixties rock concerts. Cream once did a live gig here, as did The Kinks on the night 'You Really Got Me' hit No.1 in the UK. These days it's all about the skating, and the ice rink has become popular with teenagers and ice-hockey players. If you'd like to polish your technique first though, tuition is available for groups and individuals. There is also a six week 'fun-skate' course and toddlers classes for the real beginners.
