As its name indicates, the building housing this modern, cacophonous showpiece restaurant, part of the Bank chain (other restaurants are in Westminster and Birmingham), was formerly a bank - though youd never guess it now. This bright, glass-fronted behemoth, decorated with bright splashes of primary colours, is usually brimming with suited City gents talking business over power breakfasts or brunch. The chefs certainly have their work cut out for them, as there are hundreds of dishes on the menu. Lunch and dinner feature choices from the simple to the elegant, so every palate should find something to suit. If the halibut with mushy peas and tartare sauce doesnt appeal, you might prefer duck breast with spinach and foie gras puree. Saturday brunch is livened up by live jazz music, while theatre-goers can wolf down a two- or three- course pre-theatre menu (from 5.30pm to 7pm daily) from £16. Review © 2009, Wcities |
