Sophisticated Soho cafe |
26-27 D'Arblay Street Soho London, London W1V 3FH +44 20 7287 2823 |
Tucked away on a Soho side street with a chocolate-brown façade, minimalist decor and trendy drum'n'bass, this café is a prime-time escape from the crowds. Drinks and snacks are moderately expensive, but you can usually find a seat, and service is polite and punctual. A range of bottled continental beers complement the hot food, as do a tantalising array of cakes and pastries. There is also a selection of alternative literature and periodicals to browse through if you want to take things more seriously, and the pile of flyers on the little shelf by the bar gives details on musical events taking place at the bar during the week. For an alternative munch with poetry, the open-minded, friendly and supportive Sub-verse group gathers here on the last Saturday of the month (2.30-4.30pm) to share heartfelt poetic musings on the value of surrender and for related discussion. During summer months, the glass frontage and cluster of tables placed out in D'Arblay Street catch the mid-afternoon sun. Review © 2009, Wcities |
