Among the oldest and longest rowing races ever known, this one was initiated by an erstwhile actor, and is fiercely competitive. Six expert boatmen battle the tides annually as they race the stretch of water from London Bridge to Chelsea's Albert Bridge, to win the coveted silver badge and livery, in addition to money prizes. Timed precisely during the summer's high tide, the event is an exhibition of skillful seamanship and command of the waves. It is open to all and free to watch—get ready for some adrenalin-filled excitement.
