Royal ritual at Buckingham Palace |
Wellington Barracks (Buckingham Palace) London, London SW1A 1AA United Kingdom +44 20 783 9137 http://www.changing-the-guard.... |
The changing of the guard is common in most European capitals, but nowhere is it more famous than in London. The new guard leaves Wellington Barracks a few minutes before the change and marches down Birdcage Walk to Buckingham Palace. The actual ceremony (which lasts around 40 minutes) takes place within the gates of the palace, so get there early to secure a good vantage spot. In addition, the St. James's Palace detachment of the Queen's guard marches to Buckingham Palace at 11:15a and back to St. James's at 12:10p. Free admission. See website for dates scheduled. See in the Chinese New Year in style |
Trafalgar Square London, London W1V 7LA United Kingdom enquiries@londontouristboard.co.uk |
The Chinese New Year falls in January or February each year. The large Chinese population of London celebrates its culture with a noisy and bright procession of musicians, lion costumes, dancers and martial artists making their way through the streets from Trafalgar Square. Later, more dancing takes place in Chinatown itself, and food stalls selling delicious Chinese delicacies line the streets. All in all, the atmosphere is fantastic and admission is free. One of the best of its genre |
Various venues London SE1 8XT United Kingdom +44 20 7815 1322 http://www.llgff.org.uk sarah.lutton@bfi.org |
Not surprisingly, this festival attracts some of the best works of its genre, as well as directors and actors who often make appearances at interviews and screenings. One of the most conspicuous recent trends has been the way in which the mainstream has been redefined by what would have once been considered 'queer cinema' and films with mixed casts. The festival always includes surprises and quirky events - this is where the Sound of Music Sing-A-Long was introduced. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Royal Air Force Museum |
Grahame Park Way London NW9 5LL United Kingdom +44 20 8205 2266 http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk anji.patel@rafmuseum.org |
Much hay is made about the might of the once-powerful Royal Navy - how it ruled the seas and ensured that the sun never set on the British Empire. But what of the Royal Air Force? Were it not for the brave boys of the RAF, surely we'd all be speaking German right now. Thus, a right handsome museum is in order. At the RAF Museum, you'll be treated to a dramatic retelling of the story of the famed organization - and the history of flight in Britain and around the world. You'll see real planes, jets and bombers, as well as engines, weapons and other vehicles integral to any serious war effort. You'll see uniforms, medals and other awards, photo galleries and informational archives. See website for complete visitor details. Review © 2007, Wcities |

One of the oldest surviving medieval buildings in London, St. Ethelburga's was founded around 1180.
