The Freemasons Arms is one of the two places in London where you can play the traditional game of London Skittles, which is played by throwing a piece of cheese at the nine wooden skittles. These days this cheese is made from wood, and the game also includes a pell mell court, although this is not currently in use. Pell mell is a game similar to croquet. This is a lovely pub with excellent food, a good wine list, real English ale, open kitchens, log burning fires and a pretty paved garden surrounded by trees on the edge of Hampstead Heath. A Skittle Club takes place here on Tuesday and Saturday nights. -Caroline Collard
