This Hammersmith restaurant elevates vegetarian cuisine to gourmet status and is widely lauded as the best of its kind in London. The Gate is hidden away in an artist's studio above a chapel. Smart clientèle and theatergoers at the nearby Riverside Studios flock here to pay homage to Richard Whitting's and owner Adrian Daniel's blissful international renditions. Picasso and Marilyn monochromes, looming large on the walls, prove an unusual pairing in this tranquil spot. Main dishes might include green Thai curry,carciofi or tortellini in a creamy leek and thyme sauce. Pleasing puddings include glazed pear in a chilli anglaise or chocolate and hazelnut cake. Tables spill out into the courtyard in summertime.
