This air-conditioned theater has a seating capacity of 889, spanning three levels. The Gielgud Theater opened in December 1906, and was designed by W R Sprague. Back in the day, it was called the Hicks Theater, and later re-christened 'The Globe' in 1909. Finally, in 1995 its name changed to the Gielgud. In 1997, the front facade of the theater had a facelift and further renovations are on the cards in 2006. This theatre is not to be confused with Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. The One That Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, There's A Girl In My Soup, Daisy Pulls It Off, and An Ideal Husband are few of the famous performances at this venue. Review © 2009, Wcities |
