Mother Nature's kitchen |
269A Portobello Road London, London W11 1LR +44 20 7229 5571 |
If Mother Nature cooked, the food would taste very much like the work of the chefs at The Grain Shop. The hot meals of pasta, rice, noodles and salads are lovingly cooked and taste absolutely divine. The changing menu is vegetarian with a selection for vegans. Unsurprisingly, there is almost always a queue outside this Portobello mainstay at lunch times. You can choose to mix and match your food in tin cartons that come in three sizes. Decline a cover and your carton will be generously piled high so you can enjoy your meal in the square outside. Or head to the Beat Bar a few doors away, where as long as you buy a drink, you can sit down and eat. Cakes, pastries and breads are also on offer. The yeast-free sourdough bread is a best seller. The shop is also stocked with food free from wheat, gluten and sugar products. On Saturdays, there is a stall outside selling savoury bits such as vegetarian patties and pizza by the slice.
