The grapes are worth! |
76, Narrow Street Limehouse London, London E14-8BP +44 (0)20 7987 4396 |
"...and then Charles Dickens, the old chap, climbed on to the table and started to sing!!" This is probably what The Grapes would say if it could, well, talk. This pub was later immortalized in "Our Mutual Friend" as the Six Jolly Fellowship Porters pub. The pub has been around longer than any of us have, since the 1720s. Most locals who frequent this part will tell you stories about how this area was hit during World War II. It underwent massive redevelopment, a boom unlike any other—yet leaving the pub intact. It's on street level, on the Thames (with a dock) with a seafood restaurant upstairs, and retains the old world charm. A word of caution: the wine selection isn't the greatest, so if you've come here for the wine, you're in the wrong place. Review © 2009, Wcities |
