This tiny drinking haunt is literally just that - haunted, by a soldier. No he didn't die waiting to be served at the pewter-topped bar but by truly violent means, which adds something to the bar's creepy history. Great ales are available from hand pumps - Courage Best, Morland Old Speckled Hen and Marston's Pedigree, but The Grenadier is best renowned for its Bloody Mary's. The cosy back-room restaurant is a little pricey, but with views of some covetable mews houses it is a good setting for a romantic meal. The Grenadier's bar food includes traditional chips, sausages and mash, and hot steak sandwiches. Review © 2009, Wcities |
