Holland House Youth Hostel is in Holland Park, one of London's most beautiful parks, and outside the front door are wooded areas, formal gardens (including the traditional Japanese Kyoto Gardens), grassy green stretches and an open-air theatre in the summer. The hostel itself is a mix of modern and old - one wing is in a former Jacobean mansion built in 1607. The mansion was later owned by the family of Charles James Fox, leader of one of the British parliamentary parties, the Whigs. Charles Dickens, William Wordsworth and Sir Walter Scott are also believed to have visited the house. Accommodation is in six-20 bed dorms, with basic shared facilities and a communal lounge.
