Oliver Peyton's Italian emporium - divided into the expensive Isola dining room and the slightly cheaper Osteria d'Isola - is how it should be considering the successful restaurateurs trademarks: big, bold, minimalist, expensive, showy and fairly good with the food. The Isola restaurant is huge but its mostly air. Based on the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette, decor includes steel pillars, red banquettes, frosted glass and a painting of a Marlboro dude. The attentive Italian waiters border on the sleazy, and some of the food combinations are a little doubtful, but the individual items are delicious. Osteria is downstairs, with an open plan kitchen, comfortable seating and a wine bar. You can pre-order different wines by the glass to accompany each of your courses, a Peyton innovation that should be adopted everywhere. Review © 2009, Wcities |
