Leadenhall Street (Between Gracechurch Street and Lime Street) London EC3V http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/our_services/markets/leadenhall.htm |
If you've read Charles Dickens' "Nicholas Nickleby", you might remember the reference to Leadenhall Market as the place to buy newly-laid eggs. Although the arcade is more than a century old, it has retained most of its essence, but you can't buy eggs straight from the chicken. You can, however, buy an extensive range of very fresh game, meat, cheese and fruit and vegetables. Even City workers stop by during their lunch hour to buy some bits and bobs at this superior food market. Recent years have seen a smattering of trendy clothes shops appear in the market, such as a Jigsaw and a Hobbs. There's also a cigar shop and a tailor, among others. Expect the unexpected!
