Set on the ground floor of the exclusive St Martin's Lane Hotel, the Light Bar is an oasis of opulence. The hotel is the latest UK venture of renowned hotelier Ian Schrager and the stunningly sleek interior is testament to another harmonious partnership with ingenious minimalist Philippe Starck. As the name suggests, light is a predominant feature of this desirably stylish private members' bar, and twinkling night-lights give the venue an air of magical intimacy. Apparently more fashionable than you can shake a Dries van Noten stick at, the Light Bar attracts flitting fame-gurus, moneyed youth, swanning stylists and super models, all impeccably turned out but without the level of conceit you'd expect. A narrow, lime-coloured table extends all the length of the airy, oblong bar, and drinks are served at the far end. In keeping with its luxury hotel home, prices at the Light Bar are steep, but cocktails are Epicurean and together with the electric atmosphere, it's worthy of the spend. Review © 2009, Wcities |
