The old lady of theatreland |
29 Shaftesbury Avenue London, London W1D 7ES +44 20 7494 5045 (Box Office) http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/ |
The Lyric Theatre is the oldest on Shaftesbury Avenue. It opened in 1888 with a comic opera and now caters for all tastes with a range of shows from plays and musicals to revues. Despite the diversity of shows and prime West End location, this medium-sized theatre seats only 932 people (a relatively small-scale player for the West End) and has a wonderfully warm atmosphere. There are three bars so waiting in line for a drink during the interval shouldn't be a problem. Recent performances include the hugely successful and controversial 'Semi-Monde' by Noel Coward.
