Pineal Eye

More than meets the eye
49 Broadwick Street
Soho
London, London W1F 9QP

This shop-come-gallery is the definition of cutting edge. The cavernous space resembles a club or a museum, although the mannequins floating around on the ground floor indicate this Pineal Eye's true commercial purpose. Owner Yuki Yabiku spreads one of the leading Japanese philosophies that imagination should run rampant in fashion; the other, of course, is the school of minimalism a.k.a black in the world of fashion. From international designers of almost cult status and one-off pieces to street wear and catwalk designs, it's all here, presented with more than a dash of creativity. Alongside some more off-the-wall items such as graffiti sprayed leather, ninja boots and chokers, there is a selection of well-chosen pieces from Dior, Jeremy Scott, Raf Simons, Rykiel Homme and Kostas Murkudis. In addition, the boutique stocks accessories, jewellery, and lifestyle literature in the media section, as well as a design exhibition space. Showcasing leftfield styles in the extreme, staff here also display new heights of aloofness.
