RK Stanleys has made sausages cool. This trendy sausage'n'beer restaurant presents an uncomplicated selection of Great British bangers in inventive guise, including bratwurst choucroûte, Thai and Caribbean styles, chicken sausage with cous cous, Glamorgan veggie, and the signature Simple Stanley pork snag, tastily accompanied by the likes of chump mash and glazed parsnips. Alternatively, choose from traditional British fare like smoked haddock, poached eggs and mustard leaves, braised leg of duck with candied orange, before lavender-scented rice pud with vanilla ice-cream and mint syrup, similar to Stanley's restaurant relative Alfred's. With high, red leatherette banquette booths, and metal-edged chairs, this relaxed diner provides a polished take on the typical American truck stop, with a flashback or two to the likes of Belgo. It attracts all kinds of people, but is destined to become a cult favourite in an up-and-coming area north of Oxford Street. Wash everything down with one of the 100-odd varieties of bottled beers, real ales, stouts and ciders served by the jugful. Service is charming but can be sluggish. Review © 2009, Wcities |
