There was a time when only delinquents, Neo-Nazis and military folk wore army wear. But it's been some time now since army surplus has proven itself to be popular with everyone, whether alterna-chic, outdoorsman or just your average guy looking for a great, inexpensive pair of combats. This is London's biggest chain with over 3,500 items including combats, jackets, boots, hats, shirts, camping equipment, rucksacks and accessories, not only from England but from the whole world. Stretch and relax |
6 Langley Street London, London WC2H 9JA United Kingdom +44 20 7379 3734 http://www.bodycontrol.co.uk/ info@bodycontrol.co.uk |
Forget yoga! Pilates (pronounced pill-are-tes) is the miracle exercise, according to its growing number of followers. A relatively new discipline developed in the early 20th century, it became popular with dancers and athletes in rehabilitation. Actors and singers also found the slow, thorough stretching and breathing exercises beneficial to their posture. Anyone can take pilates, young or old, athletic or couch potato - while the exercises are gentle, they will make you aware of muscles you never knew you had and over time contribute to a flat stomach and straight posture. Private studios have mushroomed around the city, but classes are still extremely popular, and this South Kensington branch is regularly booked up. Call for a list of approved pilates teachers and other information. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Board-style fashion |
352 Kings Road Chelsea London SW3 5UU United Kingdom +44 20 7376 7606 |
King's Road is actually a great place to shop for that sporty, skateboarder type look. Not all of Fly's clientele sport baggy trousers and Hawaiian shirts though; many people come here to check out the stylish retro clothes that you can find if you look hard enough. Come here for labels like Silas, Stussy and Carhartt under one roof, mixed with more obscure labels, printed T-shirts, boards and other bits and pieces like bags, stickers and hats. It's on two floors, so make sure you don't miss the basement. Review © 2007, Wcities |

24-36 Lower Regent Street London, London SW1Y 4QF United Kingdom +44 870 333 9600 http://www.lillywhites.co.uk/ info@sports-soccer.co.uk |
Although this looks rather small and unassuming from the bustling pavement on Piccadilly Circus, wander inside and you'll find five floors of sporting goods to make your eyes boggle. All manner of sporty kit from football shirts to Gortex jackets, tennis rackets, golf clubs, cricket bats, gym equipment, tents and swimwear - you name it, and they've probably got it. It's huge, so ask one of the friendly and well-trained staff for help and they'll send you in the right direction as the layout can be a little confusing. Established in 1863, this store has a long sporting history and it seems it's one they're keen to maintain. Boxing is the speciality at this small sports shop and as such they stock punch bags from around £50, training and sparring gloves, headguards and hand wraps. They also sell sports gear for boxers as well as more general leisurewear with the Lonsdale logo. Casual luxury |

The London flagship store was inspired by the ocean-going liners of the 1920s and combines art deco architecture with the opulent decor of a gentlemen's club. The women's section, for instance, features a white marble fireplace, a drop beaded crystal chandelier and bleached mahogany walls - and offers a ship-style view of the men's floor below. As for the clothes, the American designer has triumphed in the casual-wear market over the past few years, with Ralph Lauren shirts having become the Sloane uniform of choice. Beyond the basics, there is also the more funky Polo Sport, the Purple label, a selection of Collection Classics and, in keeping with the shop's theme, the Cruise range. There's even a collection of interior furnishings, sure to add a touch of style to any home. Review © 2007, Wcities |
