Bevis Marks Heneage Lane between Houndsditch and Leadenhall streets. London, London EC3A 5DQ +44 20 7626 1274 http://www.ottolenghi.org/bevis-marks.htm |
The Bevis Marks Synagogue was established in 1701 and has the distinction of being the oldest one still in use, in Britain today. The interiors are lavish and detailed and contain all of the original furnishings. It also houses a remarkable archive of records dating from the mid 17th century. It is worth a see as much for its interiors and architecture, as it is for its significance for the Jewish community. Review © 2009, Wcities |
