Ancient Church |
Cornhill (at Gracechurch Street) London EC3V 9DS +44 020 7283 2231 |
It is believed by some that St. Peter upon Cornhill is the earliest Christianized site in Britain, supposedly founded in 187 AD. While there is no solid archaeological evidence to support this specific claim, the church itself is nonetheless a historical gem. While no one knows when exactly it was established, the church was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. Rebuilt in 1687, current points of interest include a ten-foot-high representation of the key of St. Peter and a manuscript autographed by Felix Mendelssohn. Review © 2009, Wcities |
