A London Pub With Timeless Appeal |
99 Fleet Street London EC4Y 1DE +44 020 7353 6658 http://www.pubs.com/pub_details.cfm?ID=229 |
Since first opening its doors in the mid 1800's, London's Punch Tavern has been serving pints of ale with an elegance that is only matched by its decor. The tavern once played home to writers of the satirical, Punch magazine, and apparently when you frequent a bar for over a hundred years, they eventually name it after you. The interior houses comics from the magazines past issues, making it feel like an antique store as much as a pub. In the past few years there has been a bit of controversy brewing over the pub's new direction; away from a standard London pub, and nearing cafe territory. Whether the outcome of this squabble, The Punch Tavern remains a timeless place to stop in for a pint of Boddingtons and some top grade pub food. Review © 2009, Wcities |
