Built in 1587 and the first theater built in Bankside, the Rose Theater included in its repertory plays by Shakespeare, Marlowe and Kyd before shutting down in 1606. Extensive excavation of the Rose started in 1989 when archaeologists discovered part of its original ground plan. Restoration projects soon followed and now visitors can tour the Rose as part of Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition. Visitors can expect exhibits exploring life in the late 1500s, as well as insight into Elizabethan theater. Contact them for opening hours and tour information. Review © 2009, Wcities |
