With a capacity of around 200, the Velvet Room is one of London's more intimate club venues, but a wholly intrinsic part of the capital's club scene since it arrived in 1993. The sundry selection of club nights spins through the party spectrum to deliver some everlasting specials such as Thursday's award-winning teckhouse party BASE with the legendary Carl Cox and resident DJs Jim Masters, Trevor Rockcliffe and Brenda Russell. Wednesday's Swerve into action with Fabio's fresh Drum and Bass, and UK garage shakedown Da Syndicate two-steps till dawn on Tuesdays. Friday and Saturday are big house night frenzies Coco Latte and Big & Clever where the diminutive dance floor witnesses some very funky goings on. Check weekly listings to find out who's playing. Fridays and Mondays attract a relaxed gay crowd, and Sundays are to bring in acid jazz and break beats. Membership is available for £10 a year, entitling consistent clubbers to discounts on the door and queue-jumping privileges. Admission: £4-£10 depending on night, times and status.
